If we're talking about dysfunctional workplaces, I've got a bit of a story. When I was a freshman in college I was in this work study program where in which students worked various jobs around campus to make some more money towards tuition. I ended up working in the food court and usually either served pizza or worked the fryer. I hated the job, but that's another story. Anyway, I guess the people in charge of the foodcourt didn't have much concept of supply and demand because I would occasionally get yelled at for putting more chicken strips or fries in the fryer when there were still some left on the warming racks. Now this would be in the middle of lunch rush when the food court was packed so I would just respond that by the time this batch was finished, the stuff on the warming racks would be gone. I was always right.
