Sophomore year in HS my OL coach said I needed to gain weight ("bulking up" wasn't really an option since it was in the middle of the season) so 3 days a week right after practice I had a hot pocket in addition to the dinner I would eat later. I actually dropped 3 pounds. So yea, it can happen.

When I turned 35 I instantly gained 20 pounds.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: Off Topic 2012
When I played football I lost so much weight during the season is was crazy. Playing tackle the coach would get pissed off that I was getting skinnier each week. I was eating a bacon egg and cheese every morning at school, a chicken burrito and fries, with a gatorade at lunch and what was usually chinese food or fried chicken and rice every night. I had to lose at least 30 pounds every year by the end of the season. By the start of the next season I usually put on the weight. In retrospect I got much less push by the end of the season than at the start. It all makes sense now lol.Comment

We have the radio on the Halloween Sirius station, at work.
It's been very entertaining. Some really cool songs and music from horror movies and stuff. They even played the music from Halloween, a few minutes ago. I thought Michael Meyers was about to step out.Comment

Yeah, to keep your weight while playing, you should have been taking in 4500-5000 calories a day. I know guys who played professionally. Not at the NFL level but their diets consisted of almost 6500-7500 calories a day. When you take into account practice, two-a-days etc. You could burn 1500-2500 calories just in one practice and 2500-3000 calories in a game, depending on position. When I played football I lost so much weight during the season is was crazy. Eating three meals keeps your metabolism fast enough, but then with the energy expended during football season, you weren't eating near enough.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: Off Topic 2012
I never appreciated being able to eat whatever I wanted during a season until I started wrestling my Junior year. I went from eating whatever the **** I wanted during football, then winter came and I had to do all kinds of unhealthy things to make sure that I made weight. I hated the basketball players cause they would be sitting out in the cafeteria eating big *** pizzas before their practice while we would be running laps and doing ridiculous wrestling workouts. When I played football I lost so much weight during the season is was crazy. If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Off Topic 2012
My roommate did that once last year. He walked into our room after class, threw his backpack on our futon, went and stood on his scale, looked at me and said "175", then walked right back out of the room. Came back about half an hour later, stood back on the scale and started laughing.
I asked him what was so funny and he replied:
"Dude, you're never gonna believe this, but I just lost 10 pounds taking that ****."Comment

Re: Off Topic 2012
Yeah I miss HS I could eat whatever I wanted and it didn't matter due to football and my metabolism.
I usually gained weight through my playing career due to all the strength workouts we did, but during the late summer and 2 a days I'd probably lose like 10+ lbs from all the running then put it back on through muscle throughout the seasonSaints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment
