I started middle school in California in 6th grade, moved to Washington in 7th, and it went to 9th there. 4 years of middle school/jr. high sucked.

When I came back to CA I was pissed when I found out 6th grade was still elementary school and not middle school.

When I was in 4th grade, 6th grade was still in the elementary school, but starting the following year the 6th graders moved over to the middle/high school

At one point there had been talk of either building a new complex or adding a large addition to the existing middle/high school and housing K-12 all in one building though different grades would be in different sections. Ultimately the ended up just building a smaller addition onto the middle/high school that now basically serves as the high school while most of the older building serves as the middle school as well as renovating the 2 existing elementary schools.

I had no idea some elementary school went to 6th grade until I saw my education program i'm gonna enter gives me a license for K-6th.

No desire to teach 6th grade in middle school here tho unless I have to at the beginning of my career, screw that age group of kids.

9-12 isn't high school.

A lot of 6A schools in Alabama have only 10-12 at the high school. Hoover High, for example, has a freshman campus for 9th grade.

Back in the 90's, Central-Tuscaloosa was so big that Central-East High School was for 9th and 10th while Central-West High School was for 11th and 12th grade. If the two had combined, Central High would have had close to 5,000 students.

Middle school was 5-8 for me.

That was the Princess Dianne version so 1997 was my last middle school year. I'm old regardless.

Well, in a vast majority of school districts where there are a normal amount of students distributed, high school is 9-12.

9-12 is high school.

Freshman - 9
Sophomore - 10
Junior - 11
Senior - 12

Freshman/Sophomore/Junior/Senior = High school

Most colleges consider grades from 9-11 (since 12 is incomplete) for admissions. Some ignore grade 9, but that is rare.

That would be the same as some high schools in Chicago during the 80s and early 90s, having 5,000 or more students. Hell they had some middle schools in Chicago that have 3,000 students.
