Yeah, but the media doesn't cover that or anything. A hurricane heading up North and you'd swear the media acts like a Category 1 or TS is going to destroy everything in it's path

Well considering houses and buildings up north weren't built to sustain that type of wind, it can. When Irene hit Vermont last year, it destroyed 100s of houses, bridges and stores because the stuff up here wasn't designed for high winds.

Please, we in the North, or at least in the great lakes, know how to handle any type of weather.

          Rain and wind? Check.

          Tornadoes? Check.

          Snow? Check.

          Extreme heat? Check.

Unless there is a giant hurricane, we are cool.

              Re: Off Topic 2012

I actually enjoy the snow, too.

The Monday that I referenced, we got four wheelers out at my friend's farm and pulled everyone around on an old hood from a truck.

It also got a little dicey, when we started playing tag on dirtbikes. It was a lot of fun, though.

If I lived where it snowed a lot, I would def. invest in a Snowmobile. Especially if it was a similar setup to where I live now. We have too much land not to get out and enjoy it sometimes.

Do I need to put on my best Southern accent and say "The South... SHALL RISE AGGGGGGAAAIIN".
I mean, I'm not a proto-typical redneck, but I can play the part if I need to.

That's why you live in the midwest... don't have to worry about hurricanes or earthquakes...there's always tornadoes, but usually they won't effect a huge radius of people like hurricanes or earthquakes... some do go really far and do a ton of damage, but most don't go that far and only effect a small part of an area. For instance, I don't know if you all remember the tornado that hit in Parkersburg, IA, but it only tore through part of the town and I even saw one picture where a house on one side of the street was absolutely torn apart and across the street the house there was completely unharmed.

Yeah, midwest is where it's at for weather.

Unfortunately, we trade Tornado Alley for Lake Effect Snow. While less deadly, it's 100x more annoying.

I've lived in the South my whole life so I can't really comment, i've only seen snow on our 5th grade D.C. safety patrol trip and visiting the Uconn area to visit family in 9th grade.

I've toyed with the idea of moving in the future just to experience new things, but yeah screw all that hassle.

Honestly, it isn't really that bad... last year in Iowa we got an unseasonably warm winter (it stayed about high 20s-mid 30s, so not really warm, but pretty nice) and it was absolutely awesome. We had a few weeks with a lot of snow/cold, but even that's not terrible. Plus you get snow days which are awesome... unless you're in college like me and don't get them in the first place... tyranny I tell you. Tyranny!

The only good thing about Midwestern Tornadoes, is that you can see them coming usually. That's part of what adds to the dangerous nature of Tornadoes in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, etc.

I've come out of a storm shelter to my house and both of my neighbor's houses blown completely away and my grandmother's house still standing.

                                I don't **** with Tornadoes.
