Did this change recently? I ask because I know it wasn't a federal law a few years ago, it was up to the states to decide. Kansas, for example, doesn't/didn't require breaks at all.

EDIT: Here's what the Kansas DOL site says.

What breaks are required under state and federal law?

Breaks are not required under state or federal law.

California is still on the fence right now. For the last few years it's been the 5 hour rule. But that doesn't work well in food service. If I have my line cook come in at 7 he/she has take their lunch at no later than 12:00. That doesn't work in my field.

There was just a case decided recently where the Judge said as long as the company offers the lunch it doesn't matter when they take it. But a lunch has to be offered. My hospital is still going by the old rule but at least I know in a pinch my cooks can work through lunch and leave a half hour early without me getting into trouble with HR.

BTW. That case, took like 4 years before a decision was made.

Yeah, I worked in food service last year, and I never took a break longer than ~10 minutes. I was never offered a lunch break.

I also never worked shorter than a 5 hour shift. **** that place. Exploiting minors FTW.

The one and only time I ever had moonshine was on my 21st birthday.

I ended up trying to hook up with a very unattractive girl that lived with a few of my friends.... Good times

The worst thing my friends have done to me? Probably just the fact that to a good amount of people I am now known as Gregg(not even close to my real name obviously) because another good friend of our is named Chris and well it got confusing. So they picked random names to call me until they settled on Gregg, despite how much I refused it just stuck.

So now whenever we meet chicks or something I introduce myself as Chris and they always come in saying no he's Gregg but you can call him Chris. It's annoying because now I have like a few different chicks who call me Chris, Gregg or even Chris Gregg.....

We did the same to a friend in our group. We had two Daves. So the second hand Dave got the name Vinnie. We still call him that 25 years later.
