Glad to hear you are recovering. I scheduled my surgery for April 4th so I will read your updates while you recover.

      Good deal, you'll be fine.

I went through the same snore/sleep problems last night so I am pretty worn out but the amount of discomfort is definitely lessening. I can't quite talk at a normal yet either.

Good thinking scheduling it after April 1st. Probably wouldn't be a good idea having surgery the last week in March then coming to OS on the 1st and laughing at all the hilarity that is bound to transpire.

Do you think if you tried sleeping in a reclined position as opposed to flat on your back it might help with that?

I've tried just about any way I can but still can't manage to find the right position. I think i'm going to try some of those breathe right strips tomorrow to see if that will make any difference.

Had mine out at age 45. Was miserable for about 2 weeks, now I feel terrific. Very glad I had the procedure done.

Was finally able to sleep better last night...still not great, but better. Slept so well I slept through the alarm I had set to wake me for my next dose of meds. I woke up an hour after needing it...that will NEVER happen again, I fully understand why they are clear in telling you not to miss a dose!

Still about as sore as the past few days, just stay on the meds and its tolerable.

The soreness has taken a slight step up, which was expected as the scabs should start coming off soon. I have been able to sleep a little better though, still not as great as I had hoped to be. I'd say I'm waking up at least once an hour where I was waking up 3-4 times an hour over the first five or so days. Still though, the key has been staying on top of the medicine schedule, it doesn't completely take the main away but it definitely makes it manageable...don't expect to be driving around while on it though.

I also haven't pooped since the day before my surgery which I was beginning to get concerned about, but after a search I found that can be normal due to the diet and medicine. I have yet to eat any real solid food, I've been sticking with broth, really creamy mashed potatoes, pudding, jello, ice cream, and yesterday I started having smoothies with some protein powder. I also bought some refried beans and candied yams to try in the coming days.

On Friday I got some liquid multivitamin to take daily, that seems to have helped with my energy level...but it tastes horrible.

Here is a website I found when searching about not pooping, it pretty much describes what I've gone through this first week.

Oh, and I've lost 10.5 lbs...which is crazy. While I was still having a lot of trouble sleeping I had dark circles/bags around my eyes...between that and the weight loss, I didn't look like myself, it was creepy...but once my eyes cleared up I look better, just thinner.

Well I experienced one of the fears I had for recovery...hiccups.

                    They hurt.

Just a few questions... What kind of meds are you taking? My wife has taken a few days off to ensure I take the meds at night. Do you have anyone helping you with your recovery?

My girlfriend has been a huge help, I even had flowers delivered today to thank her for her help.

They prescribed me some liquid hydrocodone and pill oxycontin for pain as well as a liquid medicine to fight infection. I have only taken the hydrocodone since in the beginning I did not want to have to swallow pills, and I just never made the switch to the oxy because I didn't want to risk any side effects if the codone was still in my system.

After the hiccup spell, I spit up what I think was a scab...and I can tell a world of difference in the lower level of pain...it really has me looking forward to the rest coming off.

Sounds like the same meds I will be taking. Im most concerned about the scabs and profuse bleeding that could arise.

I greatly appreciate you taking your time to give updates.

My biggest fear was opening up the area as well, but I think it would take doing something you absolutely shouldn't to do so. I expected to vomit at some point as well, and that didn't happen either.

Things are good, the scabs still haven't come off. I ate more yesterday (for lunch it was a slightly chunky soup ins bread bowl, I ate a lot of the bread as well), after a good lunch i was ready to try "real" food and went out (to Mart's in Charlotte) and tried to eat salmon cakes, mac n cheese, red beans and cornbread for dinner with a piece of cake for dessert...that didn't go so well. I ate a few bites of each but it wasn't as comfortable as I had hoped, I ate more of the cornbread and cake than anything. The constant feeling of having something in my throat is aggregating, I have tried to gargle to remove it, but it doesn't seem to want to budge. I've also woken up with bad headaches the past 2 mornings, I don't know if its related or not. I've also only been taking Tylenol the past couple days as needed. Just ready for this to all be behind me.
