I never buy Lotto tickets, but I picked up two for the 1.5 billion.

I just feel like I need some skin in this game. Ya never know.

Correct. I do believe according to the NY Lottery's website the federal witholding tax is 25 percent plus the state gets their 8 percent as you said. So 33 percent total.

                  I found this quote funny

"My favorite description of the Powerball odds is that if you'd been buying 1,800 tickets per week since the time of Jesus, there's a better than even chance you wouldn't have won the jackpot yet"

Re: Which payment option would you choose if you won the lottery?

I have to amend an earlier statement.....
Your state lottery rules determine if you can pass off your installment winnings either to a beneficiary....or through your estate.
                    New York does allow this.

It doesn't change that I would like to get the lump sum payment up front and earn capital gains for myself...rather than let the lottery commission keep the money and make interest on it thereby paying myself yearly installments(partly) through the lottery.(the interest on 1.5 billion dollars is huge....and is a BIG chunk of the yearly installment for the first few years.)

I'm sure there is a tipping point....but SHOW ME THE MONEY!

                        Lump sum all the way.

In the office pool again for this drawing, plus still getting my personal tickets. I don't usually play, but I do occasionally, and somebody's gonna win.

I like throwing my money away anyhow.

Im getting on a plane for Vegas tomorrow afternoon for my usual January gambling trip with my buddies. However, if my numbers come in, I am staying in town to put an offer on this bad boy:

You don't need it to win the main jackpot, but if you win any other amount it could be multiplied by 2, 3, 4, 5, or 10. I think they draw to see what the multiplier is, not sure on that part. If buying 100 tickets it may not be worth it to spend an extra $100, but I am buying 1 ticket, so it's $1 extra.

It's pretty crazy that someone is potentially about to win over a billion dollars before taxes.

If it somehow makes it to Saturday, and there is a single winner on that day I think they will become one of the richest 400 American's instantly even after taxes.

I will buy 5-10 tickets tonight, I think.

You guys do the quick pick or pick your own numbers? Also, I saw a segment on the news and the lady asked the reporter if he wanted lump sum or not? I don't recall that being an option when I did the quick pick last Saturday. Maybe you can pick that option if you choose your own numbers and if you do quick pick you would choose after you win? I dunno too much!

For my tickets I just did quick picks.

What are the odds of there being a single winner from here on out? Someone told me theres a 90 percent chance that there will be more than one winner at this point but I wasn't sure if that was real fact or "bro science"
