I just found out my 73 old father has to have Quadruple Bypass Surgery tomorrow. He went in with chest pains this morning and the diagnosis come back this afternoon. Doctor said he was lucky that he came in, because the blockages are pretty bad.

I'm just in total shock now, just can't believe it. My Mom is a total wreck, even though the Doctor says they do these all the time, but man I just don't know right now.

Just numb.

OK... now that I've collected myself.

Do any posters here have any relatives who have had the procedure done, or maybe themselves had it done? Again, the Doctor keeps stressing no big deal, but sure seems like a big deal to me.

Praying for your Dad. I can't speak from experience but if the Dr. is saying its gonna be ok/simple then I would find some comfort in that if you can.

After the initial shock wore off, it did. I have also been reading up on the procedure as well. Fascinating stuff really. Thank god they caught it when they did. Just have to hope for the best, that's all I can really do.

At least I have The Show to keep my mind elsewhere, because I doubt I'll be sleeping much in the next 48 hours.

His surgery is scheduled for 3pm. Some good news, Doctor says that he'll only need to do a triple bypass now because one of the blockages can be corrected without performing a bypass on it.

Pops is joking around and in good spirits. Doctor says there's a 99.9% chance of recovery. More optimistic than I was yesterday.

My grandfather had triple bypass 10-12 years ago. It went well, and he's as spry as ever in his 80s now.

It's obviously a scary thing, but it sounds like the doctor is confident everything will be good. It most likely will be. Good luck.

Ugh.. surgery rescheduled for 6am tomorrow. Man, the waiting is just wrecking my nerves. But we did find out today that the Heart itself is strong and has NO damage. That was a relief.

But on a lighter note, I went and saw him today, and the first words out of his mouth are, "You don't want to switch places with me do you, I'll make it worth your while."

Happy to report the surgery went extremely well, and he should be up and around in the next couple days. Again, I appreciate all the well wishes from the OS Fam.
