We did Central BBQ but that was it for that scene. I’m actually a dry rub style fan, but maybe I’ve spoiled myself with my Traeger smoker because I wasn’t too blown away. Certainly good though. And it Didnt stop me from snagging a fat shaker of their rib rub to bring home.

One of the locals turned me on to the seafood. Didnt realize the bottom coast was a few hours south. Thought I was locked in middle America coming from the upper mid Atlantic east coast but nope, different takes on familiar dishes.

Drank up the Wiseacre, Crosstown, and Memphis Made brews. All passed the test.

I got to travel to Memphis for work this past week, but visiting a different place was just half the pleasure. Getting to meet with the guys and gals who make the engine go was as fulfilling an experience as I’ve had. I am legitimately swollen with gratitude and happiness after a week with my people.

It was like meeting your XBOX Live friends you been playing games with for years in person for the first time. I communicate by phone call, text, and email all day every day with these guys but physically being there and shaking hands and pounding fists really solidified the connection and relationship. We all have the same mindset and ethic. It’s a job but it doesn’t have to suck and in fact, we can even make it fun and rewarding when we’re all rowing in the same direction.

Talking about our families and our experiences and just life was next level. Getting these people who bust their *** every day to take some time out to enjoy themselves was the icing on the cake. Some folks were a bit apprehensive at first and I understand why. By the end, it was like we were all buddies sharing stories. We all come from different places and backgrounds, but we come together every weekday and make **** happen. I reject the cloud of divisiveness that may hang over this country from a zoomed out view. Get your feet on the ground and your hands dirty, and you’ll see the power and strength each person brings to the table.

All I’ve ever wanted was to give back and give people a chance just like I had people take a chance on me at different stops, whether that was slinging pizzas, pushing furniture, or creating executive reports. I’m good at what I do, but the people I have on my team execute on what I set up for them. It truly is a team effort. I make it a point to go to bat for them every chance I can because they deserve it, and thankfully I’m heard oftentimes and the glory flows downstream.

Oh, and Memphis treated my stomach well between the food and local drinks.
You have a great thing going; great and fulfilling work vibe and hopefully a full private life making a wonderful balance.

Coincidentally, a recent conversation has Memphis on my list of places to visit. I teach in a small Colorado town and one day after school I had a nice conversation with one of our Grandpas. He's in his 80's but lived in Memphis for over 50 years. He was naming off where all to eat and visit. His greatest pride was working on the original St. Jude's Hospital there, installing glass. I just love talking with him, he has this slow Tennessee drawl and just so friendly.

Your post has moved Memphis up the list.

This ended up a Pleasure of Life post; that casual conversation that ends up connecting to a whole lot more!
