    What's your "thing" at home

My wife and I recently had this discussion. I had mentioned that I needed to do yard work soon otherwise I wouldn't have time until next week. So she says, "Really, it can wait." So I reply, "Taking care of the yard is 'my thing' just like how you have to clean the bathrooms." Although I'm not a landscaper by any means, I do take great pride in maintaining my yard. As funny as this sounds, it gives me peace knowing I accomplished it and it looks good. I can't go long without mowing, etc or else it drives me nuts. My wife, on the other hand, has the same issues with the bathrooms. We both have "our things."

Besides the yard though, I can't go to sleep knowing there are dirty dishes in the sink... I don't think I have OCD since those are the only two things that I have to take care of around the house.

So I ask.... What is your "thing" at home that you must do?

Consider myself a yard master, jedi if you will. I pace the floors all winter long to work outside. Wife loves it and I hate dishes. Trash, yard work and vacuuming are my "duties".

          The "child" regulated to:

          1. Take out the trash
          2. Wash the dishes.
          3. Wash the dishes once my mom puts them right back in the sink 30 minutes later.

          4. Wash the dishes yet again.
          5. Wash the dishes for yet a 4th time and expect me not to complain about it.
          6. Clean the bathrooms.
          7. Mop the floor.
          8. Sweep everything, including the carpet.

          So...I'm basically the maid :/

Dishes. I like cleaning dishes. I don't believe in dishwashers. I don't think they do a good enough job. I have even offered to clean friends' dishes (not their actual dishes, but if we had dinner set up, I'd clean even though I'm the guest).

For whatever reason, I enjoy it. I don't know if I'd call it my thing, though, as I live with my sister and we pretty much operate under the "you clean your mess" rules.

If I was better at it, I'd also have no problem fixing everyone's bed. It drives me crazy to see a messy bed. Nuts.

I am the tech guy, the cook, and the organizer.

My wife cleans and feels the need to iron our 4yr olds clothes every Sunday. I have "learned" to just thank her for that...

I will never understand ironing the clothes of a 4yr old who is just going to roll around in the dirt 5 minutes into putting those clothes on. I especially don't understand it when one complains about not having any time...

If you are doing the yardwork, then you should dictate when it is best for you to do it. The misses should just keep it moving and accept your decision....since she doesn't have anything to do with the yardwork.
