LOL I've been told "Run!" by a few people now, but I think it'll work out well.

Thanks everyone...now she's starting to plan everything even though we're doing a smaller family wedding without a ton of guests. Add in Pinterest and it's gonna get nuts lol

The good thing is that we'd like to get a house this summer, so that keeps her spending in check (and her parents have no money, so not really much help).

No matter how small your plan for the wedding to be, she's expecting an all out Kardashian style bash with paparazzi and celeb cameos. Good luck mgo..good luck.

There is no such thing as a small wedding. It'll turn into a nightmare of spending. My sister's wedding is costing upwards of 30K or more!

              Holy snikes... 30K?!

Some of the venues charge ridiculous prices. My finace' & I booked a beautiful place, perfect for our tastes, for hella cheap. It was definitely a better spot then any other places we visited, and a fraction of the cost.

We're going to top out at 10K, if that. And that's plentyyyy to make a beautiful wedding.

I believe the average wedding cost is around $25,000 so $30,000 is not that uncommon. If you could get away with a $10,000 wedding I say more power to you. I wish I could've gotten away with a $10,000 wedding.

Re: I've made that big plunge!

Yeah, it could depend on location as well. Our venue/catering is one in the same, so that probably helps. My fiance' works at a photography studio, so we're getting her boss to do the pictures. Her Mom is big into crafts so she's making table pieces and decorations from scratch, and we got my fiance's dress from a former customer of hers for half the price. Any where we could budget while still being satisfied, we did.

And, we're not getting married to impress everyone. She may actually be the exception to the huge giant expensive wedding rule about females. I believe we're going to have just as much fun and have just as beautiful a wedding as anyone who pays double or triple the amount we do. When it goes down, I'll have to post pictures...

Well it turned into a bit of a big wedding. Everyone wants to do it up big so we have over 300 people coming to the wedding. The flowers and such alone are going to cost 8K so yeah.....

It's going to be insane on the wedding day (June 2nd)

Flat out we have to limit it as much as we can. She's even on board with this (to some extent). We'll end up doing something nice, but her parents don't have money to help out much, mine will help out some, but in general we'll be paying for most of it ourselves.

We'd rather use our savings to buy a house, and have money left over for emergencies and house improvements. She's admitted she'd love the 30-50K amazing wedding, but not at the expense of a house and our future...

Just have to find a happy medium for a more intimate wedding...she hit the "oh crap weddings can get expensive" wall last night, so we're working through it all.

Same deal here. My father just retired so he's got a nice bit of savings to throw in for us, but her parents are both laid off currently, yet they've done what they can (and like I said, her Mom is helping out creatively).

My fiance' is the same way... if we could blow tens of thousands, we'd have no problem doing it. But we can still make it amazing on a budget, and also have a little money left over for our future together. All in all, between us, my Dad, and her parents, about equal money is being put up (straight up cash, or through decorations).

Our venue is amazing for our tastes and the price. We couldn't believe how cheap it was and how beautiful it was. It was definitely better then the first place we checked out, which is popular but wayyyyy wayyyy expensive, and it wasn't even half the brilliance of the place we picked. Besides seeing my future wife in her wedding dress, I think I'm most excited about going back there. I think our guests will be as blown away as we were.

Ahhh, sorry to hijack your thread here. I'm a man... I'm not here to talk about decorations!
