    Why isn't it?

We're BOTH wasting money on another grown man's product(which seems to be the issue here), one that doesn't impact OUR lives either way so what's the difference?

Nah I read your post, but that sounded like it was more personal answer(I understood YOUR reasoning BTW) to the question. Mine was more of a general question for others to answer as well?

What isn't a grown man's product? Something that was created by a child or a grown woman? Apple is a grown man's product. So is McDonald's, Titleist, Nike, and almost everything else in this world. Should we not use or listen to other things because they were created by other grown men? Or are we talking about stuff with grown mens name on them only?

I'm kind of confused on how a "grown man's product" has to do with the conversation.

Ok, so tell me what exactly is the issue here? Why isn't it the same?

What exactly is wrong or strange or childish with wearing another man's name on your back? I seriously want to know this because it's one thing to say it's not your style and it never has been. But to say it's strange/weird doing it, how exactly is it?

If anything and judging by the look of the crowds at, I don't know, every relevant sports event... having this opinion all those people are strange/weird is itself strange/weird.

"I better not wearing this shirt/jersey with another man's name on it because people will think I'm a loser but if I wear these $150-$200 Jordans/Griffeys/Pennys/Lebrons then it's no problem".

Honestly, until I read this thread I had no idea how much of a big deal it was to people to see someone wearing a jersey or a shirt with another man's name on the back. Never even thought it was an issue because I was under the impression that it was another way to show support of the team, not your undeniable love for that particular player.

But I'm not sure about the comparison to shoes like J's or especially to headphones (what?).

True, some people wear Jordan's because of the name, but others wear them because they think they're the best looking, performing, etc, shoe on the market. Same with headphones. I've owned many different brands, and Dre Beats are by far my favorite. When it comes to jerseys, I think some people may feel it's different. What about the people that wear knockoff jerseys that are cheap...or replicas, that aren't as expensive as authentic's, or shirtseys or whatever they're called, those aren't the best.

Another thing, (some) guys to athletes are like females to musicians. It amazes me how some grown men will pitch a tent over their starting quarterback or all-pro guard, especially if they see them in person. I really like my Beats, but if I saw Dr. Dre in person, I wouldn't have the same reaction because of his headphones as the average sports fan might have to a franchise player.

It's kind of hard to explain, but I feel it's apples/oranges when comparing something like a sport's jersey and other products like headphones, or like someone else mentioned, Apple products.

Re: How do you feel about wearing players names on your back?

This shoe argument doesn't compare IMO. For the most part, people buy these shoes because its in style not because of the player. I see kids wear J's all the time and they don't know **** about Jordan. I buy Lebrons because they fit my feet better than other shoes that I've tried not because I'm sporting Lebron.

I've been in the shoe game and most people will buy a certain shoe because of its colorway and how it matches outfits they can wear or either how rare the shoe is and show off that they are one of the few people who own a certain shoe. People who buy 2 pairs of the same shoe to wear one and one to collect and show off in pictures is really not giving a **** about Jordan, sorry.

There are people who buy jersey for style too but I believe most people buy a certain jersey because they support the player and the team. You go to a game and people are wearing jerseys not the players shoes.

                    I agree somewhat, but,

People may buy Apple products because of the name, but that's because Apple products are really good.

People may buy J's because of the name, but that's because J's are a good shoe.

I doubt too many people buy a product like headphones or a iPhone because of their infatuation/love with the owner or creator of that product. That's not the case with jerseys.

Fans don't buy shirseys or whatever because they're a great product or material. People buy jerseys solely because of the player whose name is on the back. Don't believe me, I'm sure some fans have guys on their team they don't like and would refuse to wear their jersey, despite being a fan of said team.

I agree, as I only buy Nike shoes because they are more durable and fit better than any other brand

But there are a ton, and I mean a TON of Apple fanboys that buy anything Apple no matter what

But I disagree with your last part... Not sure if other people do this, but I buy a jersey to buy the team's jersey, and the player on the back doesn't matter to me as long as he will stick around for a while so my jersey doesn't become dated

Good post, legend and I agree with that for the most part.

I just don't like the obvious double standard that goes on between the two or that if you wear a jersey or shirsey, then you're weird/strange because there's another man's name on the back. That ridiculous IMO.

Yeah, I shouldn't have made that generalization about every sports fan.

I guess an example of my part would be a Houston Texans and Longhorn fan refusing to wear the jersey of their best player because he went to A&M.

I own 3 named jerseys. I have a Griffey jersey that I got when I was in middle school (first jersey I ever owned). I absolutely love Griffey and will never get rid of that jersey, but it obviously doesn't fit me anymore so I never wear it. I also have a Julius Peppers jersey since I'm a Panthers fan and when I got it, I never thought they would let him go (I'm looking to get a replacement one for this fall). My last one is a Ryne Sandberg jersey that I got a few years ago.

These days, the only jerseys that I will buy with a name on them is that of a player that I grew up watching. I'm 26 and personally, I will not wear a jersey with the name of someone on it who is younger than me (unless I know them personally) but to each their own.

I just do not understand this, I don't see the connection. Quite frankly I can't see the reasoning behind any of the anti-jersey arguments and am starting to feel like those reasons border on the pathological.

                                I feel "cursed".

The only Browns jerseys I've ever owned are: Couch (Career long over), Holcomb (same) and Edwards (Braylon, who was traded shortly after I bought it).

In short, any jersey I buy, I fear that player will be gone/injured/ suck.
