    USPS Priority Mail problem

Hey guys, long story short, I sold a laptop on eBay for $850.00. I used Paypal Click N Ship, never had an issue with it. I dropped it off at the post office on Monday 5/14 at 10:21am EST. When I track the Priority mail number online, it just says "Accepted at 10:21EST" and then the icons show "In Transit". That's the only update that it's had. That was Monday, it was Going to Gainesville FL, should have been there on Wednesday, or that was the Estimated Delivery date.

I've called the 800 number and the local post office, and neither can "help me", the 800 number says I need to wait until 5 days after the shipping date to look into it. They did not purchase the insurance, so it is uninsured unfortunately. Had I have known, I would have put it on there prior to "printing".

Anyone have anything similar happen? Did it show up? Understandably so, he's upset, but at least knows that I shipped it due to the fact it shows accepted and in transit.

    Help.

Only thing I can really say is the USPS website really sucks and is sometimes a few days behind. The best option right now may be to just wait a few days and see if it updates.

USPS sucks for tracking anything. Unless it passing through certain sorting/routing locations, you won't see any updates until it gets to the local delivery post office. With priority, I thought it was 2-3 day delivery though?

Yeah, it's supposed to be 2-3 days. But when talking to them on the phone, they are quick to let you know that those are "Estimated" times and to give it time. I did speak to someone and open a report and she said someone will contact me within 1 business day (Monday) and they will attempt to locate it. She said for some reason, the system accepted the package when I shipped it, but the "latest" update was "Electronically notified to expect shipment" nearly 2 hours after I actually shipped it. Doesn't make sense.

I don't have an additional $850 laying around to reimburse the guy, (I will if it comes to it to make it right), and he is getting upset even though its out of both of our hands currently.

Back in the day I did alot of selling on eBay and gave up on USPS for this very reason. Had several items lost in transit, only to be found weeks later. My advice is to contact them after 5 business days so they know it's lost. This will speed up the process of them finding it. If you purchased insurance with it and they don't find the package. You will have to wait 2-3 weeks before you can file a claim with them.

            Good luck!

My best advice Will, is the next time your sell something that much money......buy shipping insurance. That is $850 that is possibly down the drain now if it doesn't turn up.

Yeah, I called on Friday after working hours and they opened the claim, and said they would get the guy to look into it and track down the package. You all keep your fingers crossed, because $850 would much rather stay in my account right now. Hopefully to goodness it'll show up in the next 2-3 days.

Why not use FedEx or UPS? I don't have anything against the USPS but if I really value something that has to go in the mail, I'm going to pick a private business over a government program.

"Out for Delivery"! I'm feeling all sorts of relieved right now. Hopefully it's not got any damage to it, just misplaced instead.

Yeah, no doubt. I'm still crossing the fingers that it's in good shape. No more USPS for this type of shipment, that's for sure. And after some other things I've read while doing some research on this problem, is no more Paypal, almost period. WAAAAAAY to easy to get scammed on there.

PayPal is the best way not to get scammed. Transferring money to a stranger is always a risk, but Paypal does as good a job at stopping problems as anyone does.

I don't know about for shipping things, but for virtual transactions, Paypal is one of the worst things you can use. It is so easy for someone to send the money from a different IP address than claim unauthorized payments. They almost never lose too.

Yeah, if it is for a payment like that, and you want to pay a fee, use Western Union.
