I used to be an insomniac... Then I had kids. Cleared right up after that.

Re: Insomina: The offical sleepless zombie thread
I've had sleep issues since my junior year of high school (about 10 years now). I've tried many combinations of things to help. I refuse to take drugs, as I rarely take any kind of medication at all for anything, especially to try to sleep. Too many stories about sleep walking/driving/etc.
My sleep issues go in cycles where it will be really bad for 3-4 months (average maybe 2-3 hours per night), to not so bad for 3-4 months (5-6 hours per night). At this time I've got it in control a bit I feel by exercising fairly regularly and meditation/breathing exercises about an hour before I need to go to bed. Sometimes it still takes me a while to actually fall asleep, but it's gotten much better in the past year or 2.Comment

Re: Insomina: The offical sleepless zombie thread
Try this stuff:
Cheap and effective. It can give you some crazy dreams too.
Pretty much exactly what I use, though I use 3mg tablets, not 5mg. Works wonders for helping fall asleep.
I've never had trouble with sleep. So I have wondered if going for a run or exercising during the day would help the non-sleepers. I also wonder if the non-sleepers could use this time to catch up on their classical literature. Some of those epics and novels ought to put you to sleep, no? If not, you'll gain some significant knowledge.
SpoilerI'm looking at you, Madame Bovary.
Everyone's a bit different. I know in my own experiences, I've had plenty of days where it'll be 10pm and I'll be physically exhausted. I'll lay down to go to sleep, and then I'll stare at the ceiling or wall for an hour or two because I can't fall asleep. Physically I'm exhausted. Mentally, I'm wide awake and ready to go.Comment

Re: Insomina: The offical sleepless zombie thread
I used to have sleeping problems where I'd go to bed at like 4 a.m. Then I started getting up at 4 a.m. and exercise and play basketball (do basketball drills mainly, with a few pick-up games) for a few hours. I get to sleep at like 10 p.m. now.“If you’re true to yourself, you’re going to be true to everyone else.”Comment

I don't necessarily have insomnia, but when I'm at school, I have a lot more trouble falling asleep than I do at home. Not too sure why though.MLB: Minnesota Twins

Re: Insomina: The offical sleepless zombie thread
Well, I don't really know. It's very... locational... if that's a word. At college, for whatever reason, I just can't seem to sleep as well in the dorms. It has nothing to do with noise or anything, but I'll get in bed at 10:30 (to get to class at 8 the next day) and end up just sitting there, unable to sleep until at least 1, but anywhere else, I fall asleep just fine... So I guess it's sort of, kind of regular... in a way. I'm not necessarily an insomniac, I guess.MLB: Minnesota Twins

Re: Insomina: The offical sleepless zombie thread
I have serious insomnia. Just the other day, I wasn't sleepy until 3: p.m., which made me get very little sleep. I'm a very inconsistent sleeper that sometimes goes to bed relatively early and sometimes goes to bed very, very late.Last edited by TheTruth437; 06-17-2012, 11:11 PM.Comment

Re: Insomina: The offical sleepless zombie thread
Not always, a lot of times you can fatigue yourself from a work out.. but your heart rate is raised, and you get really pumped up afterwards so while your muscles may be fatigued, you might not get sleepy.
Which is why I'm trying to schedule my workouts earlier in the day, I used to have trouble falling asleep on nights where I worked out late.Minnesota Vikings

That's because working out before you go to sleep throws your circadian rhythms all out of whack. Not always, a lot of times you can fatigue yourself from a work out.. but your heart rate is raised, and you get really pumped up afterwards so while your muscles may be fatigued, you might not get sleepy.

When I was at UNI (1995-2000) Sharky's was always a great sleep aid when I lived in Bender.Well, I don't really know. It's very... locational... if that's a word. 4:42am here and I haven't slept a wink. I have to be to work at 8am too.
Not sure what my problem is tonight. It seems like at least once every month or so I have a night like this, usually on a Sunday.
