I was just talking to my brother yesterday about getting a team together this year. Told him to request off of work. I really want to make this an event amongst a group of friends and family this year, though I enjoyed playing solo last year. I did have a few dedicated wingmen, too.
All thanks to your post about this last year!
I've never done much charity work, but that changed with this. It's fun, and it feels really good to be able to help kids out with any donation money I can collect. I'm going to step my donation up from the $20 I put in to kick off my donation page this year, too.

We're 18 days away, if you can help (even if it's $1), please do. 100% of proceeds go to the kids in these hospitals. I was one of these kids, I spent a Christmas holiday in the hospital due to a serious Asthma attack. It's very personal to me, which is why I am doing it again.

Got mine all set up yesterday. This year they have multimedia help, so I printed a few flyers and gave them to family and posted at both of my jobs. It's so close now, I'm so excited.

Thanks man. Actually last year nearly half of my donations were from random dudes from the Internet. I don't care who it is, it's for the kids! But I just got it set up on Monday so I'm hoping people from my workplaces give it a real look, and I'm seeing my whole family on Sunday so I'm gonna give them a flyer as well. My brother donated $30 a year ago.

Down to the end, 5 days left. Just wanted to bump this one more time. This Saturday I'll be playing XCom, NBA 2K13, some Kinect stuff with my kids, and who knows what else, maybe some OS'er can get me in with a hookup for Forza Horizon early. I'll be live streaming (as long as it works LOL) it as well, check my twitter feed for links.
I'll also be doing a tour with my kids on Friday of my local Children's Miracle Network Hospital, I want to show my kids why we are doing this. I want to meet some of the kids I'm hopefully going to help. I want to bring a smile to someone's face. Yeah, I'm gaming which I love, but I'm doing this for the kids, not me.
Here is an email I received today from the charity, it's very touching.
It all comes down to this week. With just 5 days remaining until the 2012 Extra Life event, there is a palpable sense of excitement amongst this community.
This Saturday we play.
This week, however, there is still much to be done For The Kids. Don’t let everyday annoyances and responsibilities come between you and your fundraising goal for local kids.
I want you to imagine a playroom. It is a colorful, clean, happy playroom filled with laughing, adorable children. This playroom looks like any playroom in any school or daycare in any town in any country. But it’s not just any playroom.
You watch through the glass as Child Life Specialists, who are some of the unsung heroes in many CMN Hospitals, lead them in crafts and activities. Over in the corner, one of the Child Life Specialists has a medical play doll, and she is using it to help a 7-year old girl learn about the procedure she has to endure this afternoon.
A bunch of the kids are riding plastic cars, while their dad pushes their IV pole along beside them, trying to keep up. The lucky ones still have their hair. Some wear funny hats. Some are bald. They see you in the window, and wave to you.
You wave back.
This playroom you’re imagining is real.
If you had seen this today with your own eyes, there would be no holding you back this week. You’d charge through Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday and Friday, and you’d go couch diving and hold a cubicle yard sale at work and do whatever it took to make sure that come Saturday you arrived at Extra Life magnificently out of breath, knowing you did all you could do to save these kids.
This week is going to be over in what will seem like 5 minutes. Don’t let it get away from you.
Wave back to the kids and tell them you’re coming to play too. You just need to take care of a few things first… You’ll be right there.
