College Application Process
Who all has gone through the process recently of getting accepted into college? I am in my senior year and will be putting my first application in after I receive my most recent act score. What do I need to do after applying and to prepare myself?\Tags: None -

Re: College Application Process
Depends on where you applying to. A lot of schools are easy to get into and some you really need recommendations to get in. Other then that, apply early......like before thanksgiving. Seen way too many kids not apply until after New Year and then wonder why they didn't get in.
So apply early, especially if you know you going to need financial aide. Their stuff goes by quick, 1st come 1st serve. Also I would apply to as many as possible. Got to play the law of averages. Don't wait until your top 3 reject you and here it is January and thinking oh crap now I got to pick some more schools. You will end up S.O.L then.
I watched my younger brother go through that. He ended up S.O.L and came june when all his friends were getting ready for college all excited, he was left behind feeling salty as hell. Which started a downward spiral of depression and not caring about life.
His friends moved on, he was stuck at home. They didn't call or anything. And when they came back on thanksigivng break, christmas break or spring break, they treated him like crap because he wasn't in college. He truly learned friends can be flaky and in life you have to look after yourself and put yourself 1st.
Took him 3 years to finally snap out of that funk. But now he is a sophmore in college and couldn't be happier. Sure he didn't get into his college of his dreams, but at that point he was just happy to get into any college and move on with his life.Comment

Re: College Application Process
My process was simple. FSU seemed decent, applied and well yeah just went lol. Make sure you have all the right scores tho or it won't even matter, got me on the 1st decision because they decided to count SAT writing so I just took the ACT. That screwed me over into then getting in a ****ty dorm my freshman year.
I did apply to LSU as well and got in, but I just couldn't afford it as I'm already paying using all loans/grants for in state at FSU. It's a decision I regret, but at the same time don'tSaints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: College Application Process
You should be living in your HS guidance counselor's office now asking about and filling out scholarship applications. Even those you don't think you have a good shot at...never hurts. Every little bit helps.
Get an English teacher to help you write a strong "Why I'm deserving of this scholarship" essay. Then you can modify it to fit the needs of each one you apply for.
Senior year is all about getting paid (student loans are not fun).Comment

Re: College Application Process
I had 3 letters of recommendation along with something I wrote (required). My grades weren't so strong, but the letters of recommendation from my employer, marketing teacher, and counselor did the trick.Comment

Re: College Application Process
Going to a state school, all I had to do was get my transcripts sent in and the state schools have a score that they put together that factors in ACT score, HS GPA, HS Credits and some other things that I can't remember right now, but anyway, they had multipliers for all these things and if you got a score over 273 (which I did) you were automatically accepted. I really liked that. It was super easy and I didn't have to work that hard. :wink:MLB: Minnesota Twins
NFL: Philadelphia Eagles
NBA: Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves
European Football: Manchester United, Brighton & Hove Albion
NCAA: UNI Panthers, Iowa Hawkeyes

Sounds much better than Texas, top 8 percent and your automatically accepted to all Texas colleges, I'm at a pretty competitive school so I'm around 17% with a 3.7, I don't really want to stay in state anyway, la tech is offering me in state tuition but ucf isn't too expensive.
