Re: I leave for bootcamp tomorrow.

This topic was created five days before I graduated my basic training, but for those who might stumble upon this thread or whatever, most of what has been said already is true. Just use some common sense and try to not bring any unwanted attention to yourself. Do what you are told and keep yourself and whoever you can in check.

    Best of luck to you.

Basic is set up so you can't fail. We had guys that were horrible at life and they still made it.

Re: I leave for bootcamp tomorrow.

I was talking to my friend about military and he was saying how much easier it is than when he went. He said when he went there wasn't any phones aloud, the drill Sargents were a lot worse and the food was crap. Then he told me that when he went back to his first area to see it that everyone has cellphones, the Sargents are a lot softer and they even have things called stress cards that if your getting chewed out you show the card and they are suppose to leave you alone along with the food being a lot better. Is all this true?

Just seems like he was blowing a lot of smoke especially about the stress cards part.

I went through just over 3 years ago. We def didn't have stress cards. However, when they surveyed us we found out that they weren't allowed to curse. Of course most did. The food def gets better after basic. I know that our TI yelled at anybody who got unhealthy food though.

Re: I leave for bootcamp tomorrow.

Good luck, and thank you for choosing to serve!

My father was a Marine, as is my oldest son (he just completed his tour).

I wrote to my son twice a week in boot, we kept a steady stream of correspondence going. I also included some pages from a Calvin and Hobbes book for him in every letter, which were very popular with his platoon. LOL

He was offered Guide in boot, but he declined it (he didn't want the responsibility). As such, he did not come out of boot with a stripe, and going thru serving well as a Guide would have had him graduate a PFC.

He knows it was a mistake LOL. We told him, don't say no to a promotion.

He finished his six years as a SGT, and a better man.

Well I'm back I had a meritorious promotion and stuff it was awesome on the Island but incredibly painful. So many kids got Spartan kicked and all kinds of stuff. I hate sand fleas with a passion etc. The Crucible ain't no joke and so on.

Thanks I'll probably post graduation pics in that one topic. So amped. I missed so much sports stuff and video games and actually sleeping and eating when I want and not showering with 75 other men.

When we were going to the Island for our son's graduation from boot, his only request was 'bring me a loaf of bread and peanut butter and jelly'.
