Re: Let's take a minute to appreciate our dogs

My dog is a complete smart ***, sometimes.

I don't know if it was a coincidence or if he's just that smart, but my dad's friend was at the house and they were working on a car in the shop. My dog picks up one of their gloves off the ground and my dad's friend says, "Go find your own glove". He put the glove down and disappeared for a few moments and came back with another glove and sat it down and started "talking" to my dad's friend..

There is one member here that I was expecting to see in this thread.

And he is not in this thread.

        I am disappointed.

Don't have my own dog yet(probably won't I prefer cats more slightly).

However my parents got my little sister a long haired doxen about 2 years ago and they named it Shockey.....It fits cause that dog can be annoying.

            Spoiler

This is Zoey ... she's getting to be about 8 now but age is catching up with her. she's always been overweight, and now arthritis is starting to affect her. about three months ago she had a life threatening liver infection and just last week blew out her acl in her back leg. she's a tough gal, and i hope she toughs it out for many years to come.

In fact, she's the only dog my kids have known.

My dog "Dog." He hated everyone but me including my wife but he let it known he was mine. After my wife had our baby, I gave him to my parents where my brother ran him over. He was a good dog. To me

I am excited to get a dog. Right now, since I live in a tiny 1 bedroom apartment I have two cats, just because they fit apt life much better and my lifestyle much better. My mom had a dog that was a rescue black lab/newfoundland who helped her alot, when after the divorce, us boys couldn't be around too often. Great dog.

My wife and I have been home owners for a little over a year now (moved in in January). Got my first dog in February (my first dog that I actually owned).

His name is Zeus. We rescued him. He is awesome. A great guard dog, and a good dog. When he does you wrong, you can tell he feels bad.

                  Anyone thinking about getting a dog...you should. They're great.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1350438550.225361.jpg

Here's mine. She's a rescue and the first dog I've owned myself. She's a bit of a handful, but a great pup.

Her name is Emmie and she's 3 years old. My girlfriend and I rescued her when she was 6 weeks. She's some kind of German Shepherd mix, but she's only about 45 lbs. Perfect size for a 1 bedroom apartment.

I've been sick the last few days. The other night I was laying in bed, my dog came up and laid down next to me with his head on my chest. And immediately, I felt better. Dogs and their amazing medical cures.

My boy Blaze. And no, I didn't name him, my 5 y/o brother did. We picked him up, damn 4 years ago this month. His momma spoils the damn dog rotten (a pillow, really?) but he's about the nicest dog you will ever meet. And if I wasn't with her, she would probably not have gotten him and left him in that shelter. We can't be sure, but we're pretty sure he was either beaten or neglected when he was younger.

That pic on the pillow is too funny.

I'm so proud of my nearly 2 year old Bernese/Border Collie mix(yep...we found out she's 1/2 border collie....)
We were hiking a trail here in upstate N.Y. and she ran up ahead and started barking at the ground.....barking...growling...barking....I didn't see anything and she kept at it...I passed her and kept calling her. She was growling like crazy and wouldn't move. I started back....she lunged and grabbed a 4 foot long snake off the ground and shook like crazy. I didn't even see it or have time to react. She dropped it(I had to finish it off....I feel bad about that)...
It probably wasn't even poisonous(few are up here)...but damn it was pretty big and must have been poised to strike.(She never barks at squirrels...chipmunks...deer...frogs anything when we are walking so she must have felt threatened.)
I was pretty impressed with her willingness to protect me.

Man, reading this thread really makes me miss my first dog Ashley, a black lab that my step dad had when he and my mom first got together.

She was only 2 at the time. She went with us everywhere, did everything and was seriously the best dog I've ever known. When I was sick she would be there next to me, if I was playing outside with my friends, she would wait on the front step until I got home. She was incredible.

Unfortunately age caught up to her, and we think that she ran away to her final resting place. She lived to be 16, which is pretty impressive.

It's been about 5 years since she's been gone and it's still tough thinking about not be able to see her one last time. We've had a couple dogs since, but it wasn't the same. When I move into a house, the first thing I'm doing is getting a dog.

I want a Husky for sure, but am also leaning towards a St. Bernard. My moms friend has one, and he's awesome. Maybe I'll just get both lol

I love Husky's ....they are truly beautiful dogs and probably the closest to wolves, which for some reason makes them even more appealing to me.

My wife used to work at the local humane society and they had a half wolf, half something else. Not sure what it was. But anyway, he was awesome. Everyone was very careful around him, but I got a pet him a few times and he was perfectly fine letting me do it.
