It would be interesting to see how many actually strike. In the end, it wouldn't matter because Walmart would just fire them and have them replaced in a few days.

Walmart workers going on strike on Black Friday
“They don’t care about family,” said Charlene Fletcher, a Wal-Mart associate in Duarte, Calif. She said she is expected to report for work at 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The workers said that when they complain about scheduling and other problems, management cuts their hours or fires people.

Re: Walmart workers going on strike on Black Friday
Yeah, Wal-Mart is undoubtedly the worst retailer you could work for. I've heard many horror stories since my mother and sister are in the retail world. On the one hand i'm glad that workers are finally trying to take a stand but as you said it'll all be for naught as they be fired and replaced before you could say "well that didn't work."
One would have to be extremely desperate to willingly work for those people.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Walmart workers going on strike on Black Friday
I thought most stores shut down at a certain time on Thanksgiving if they're even open at all, no?
Like the only store open would be convenience stores and the like.
But a big store like Walmart?Comment

Re: Walmart workers going on strike on Black Friday
Some stores are opening up on Thanksgiving day to get Black Friday shoppers in the doors early.
Target is opening at 9pm while Walmart will open at 8pm. I'm sure workers will have to get there hours in advance to prepare for the maniacs who show up to shop.Comment

Re: Walmart workers going on strike on Black Friday
Wal-Mart usually stays open all of Thanksgiving into Black Friday to avoid the trampling by the rush of people once they'd reopen. At the very least, they reopen Thanksgiving night if they do close.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

Re: Walmart workers going on strike on Black Friday
Eh, I've worked in retail for three different companies over the last ten years and every one of them was open on Thanksgiving every year, and only one of them closed on Christmas. If you work in retail or food, working holidays is expected IMO.
I will say the article and video was kinda depressing in that the same crap they seem to be dealing with is going down where I work too. Layoffs, pay cuts, understaffing, diminished benefits, etc and you could just see the morale plummet. Five years ago we were setting the standards, nowadays we're reaching Walmart levels of standards. Yikes.
Moral of the story: Stay out of retail.Co-Commish of the OS Vets I & II

Re: Walmart workers going on strike on Black Friday
Unfortunately, Wal-Mart is a trend setter. Seeing all these companies cut employee hours across the board is what Wal-Mart's been doing for the past 5 years or so. Its sad how a lot of companies treat employees nowadays. So much for community responsibility anymore.

Re: Walmart workers going on strike on Black Friday
There are tons of people that have to work on all holidays not just Thanksgiving. Not saying wal mart is a great place to work but if the workers need/want their job they should probably go to work.Battle.net: xXKING08Xx

Re: Walmart workers going on strike on Black Friday
Is Wal-Mart supposed to or expected to care about family?
Suck it up and work or quit. A lot of people have to work Thanksgiving, ideally everyone would be off and with their families, but that isn't reality.Last edited by Buckeyes_Doc; 11-16-2012, 05:53 PM.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Re: Walmart workers going on strike on Black Friday
It really just isn't about working on holidays. It is more about how their workers are tired of being bullied and treated like crap for very low pay. It is about Walmart severely under staffing their stores for mass profit. So instead of doing the job of 1 person, you doing the job of 10 people.
Don't care what you do for a living, nobody deserves to be bullied and treated like crap by their employer.Comment

Re: Walmart workers going on strike on Black Friday
I worked for Walmart during the Summer and Labor Day/The 4th was hell alone (I was an unloader working the 4-1 shift). I couldn't imagine unloading for Christmas.

Re: Walmart workers going on strike on Black Friday
Employers are supposed to care about their employees. Why don't they just go ahead and only pay minimum wage to everyone?
Most big retailers are ****ty to work for.Last edited by SuperBowlNachos; 11-16-2012, 06:38 PM.Comment

Re: Walmart workers going on strike on Black Friday
That's just like where I work. Two years in a row I had to work Thanksgiving day, Christmas eve and Christmas night as well as new years.
If they didn't cut out our holiday pay off at midnight it wouldn't be so bad. Like we are scheduled 10pm-6am Thanksgiving night, we only get the 2 hours of holiday pay until 12. After that we get regular pay. Its complete BS. Our shift starts on a holiday so we should get holiday pay the whole way through it.PS4 Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/candyman5os
