This is going down near the town where I currently live, I am military and not from the area. Basically what happened is that there is a special needs player who apparently on his high school transcript this would be his 5th year of eligibility for high school sports. John Doe as they call him has bounced around in foster homes and in the year in question was placed in a group home and not given access to sports or other extracurricular. John Doe isn't an all-star he is the kid that they put in when they have a giant lead in order to give him some self-confidence. This school has done the right thing for this kid and it seems as if they have helped make his life better.
The school in question was last year's state champions in football and has had an undefeated season so far this year. Early last week they got disqualified when they self reported the administrative error. They fought against it and had a temporary lift on the ban allowing them to play last week's game which they won. They went to court again today and they got disqualified once again and they tried to appeal to lessen the penalty and impose a fine and that also got almost exclusively voted against. The board doing the voting is made up of people from the upper part of the state and the don't answer to anyone but it seems that they have an axe to grind with this team that isn't from there and is looking like they are going to take the state championship again.
Like I said, I am not from around here so I don't have any ties with any high schools down here but it seems like a major injustice is being done here.
What do you guys think?
