I had a feeling that this would happen to me

For about a month I've been going to the bathroom waaaay too much (and been thirsty). Didn't think anything of it. Then lately vision been more blurry, been more sluggish, and I thought it was because of not eating enough. So I come up to Jacksonville for Thanksgiving and my mom and grandma noticed I've lost a lot of weight. Went to urgent care today, and now I'm sitting in a hospital bed due to dehydration and most likely diabetes (my blood sugar was at 528).

OS has surprised me in the past. Any tips of what I will have to do going forward (I understand the whole I need to go to the doctor regularly). My diet has pretty much just changed today, so it's just all new.

Yeah......you have diabetes. My dad had the same signs before he was diagnosed with it. He was always thirsty, had to pee a hell of a lot and he lost close to 100 pounds. That being said.......ahem.

No white bread, got to really cut back on it.
    Diet soda only
No french fries or white potatoes period.
Can't use regular sugar in anything, have to use the artificial kind.
Basically anything that contains sugar you can't have, not even the smallest amount.
Got to severely cut back on drinking alcohol.

That is how my dad got diabetes, from drinking too much alcohol. And if you are a heavy smoker, you can get it from that as well. The type 2 diabetes anyway.

I had no idea you could get it from drinking too much.

I take it, it's because of the constant de hydration of the body ?

I don't have much knowledge on it. My grandmother on my father's side is the only person in our family with it.

Excessive drinking damages the pancreas. If that gets damaged your body stops naturally producing insulin, which leads to diabetes.

Excessive smoking damages increases the blood sugar level too high, which makes your body insulin resistant, which leads to diabetes.

Thankfully I don't smoke, so that's nothing I have to worry about. This is probably the end of me going out, because I can't be around some people sober and I'll rather stay in.

It just sucks that most of the food I eat now (especially my favorite desserts) are no longer eatable.

I have "Type 2.5 Diabetes" which is just a smartazz way of saying I have high blood sugar...

When / if you wanna drink, stick to the super low carb beers (Mich Ultra / Miller Lite / Natty Lite), Vodka (with soda, no tonic, juices or sugary sodas as mixers) or white (not red) wine...

Look into the Zone Diet / South Beach / Sugar Busters

            Cut out anything "white"

White Flour / white rice / pasta / etc

There's plenty of really amazing sugar free options out there as desserts...

            Best part:

Cut that crap out of your diet for three months and not only will you no longer crave it, it will make you sick if you cheat...

All that stuff is really bad for you anyway...

If you can beat this without insulin, you're actually going to be more healthy than the majority of folks that eat all the processed crud we exist on now...

And become a gym rat...exercise is your friend!!!

            Good luck!

                Really?

                That stinks!

My ex, a couple friends of mine and I all "cleaned up our act" 10-15 years ago...

Firstly, everyone still sticks to some version of those diets to this day and like me, feel like hell when we get tempted by something "bad"...

Maybe you just need a longer period to lock it in?

Yeah, I just have to learn moderation.

The funny thing is I never been a candy person, and outside of ice cream, my favorite desserts were apple pie and banana pudding.

Nah. It's futile. I stopped drinking soda for a year and every single day of that one year, I craved it like a fiend. As pathetic as it is, I would even open the fridge and just LOOK at the cans, dying to drink one.

Anytime I don't have a food or drink for a long time, it doesn't do anything to stop my cravings.

Eh. I'm glad other people can do it. Ah who am I kidding, I hate y'all. SMH.

It really depends on the Diabetes, my mom has it and there are things she's still allowed to eat she just keeps up with her blood sugar.

The biggest thing I can say is make sure you find a doctor who understands diabetes, back in South FL the general practitioner prescribed her insulin needles, etc. Goes to a really knowledgable Dr. in Tampa and finds out she needed none of that and what not.

I have it too man. Look, GMSS is on the right track, but you can still have some of that stuff in moderation. I cut out sugary drinks, went to wheat bread, but still eat fries, pizza, cereal, and stuff with carbs and sugar. You just have to know how many carbs and sugar you can have. I don't drink or smoke so that helps too.

I am supposed to have between 60-90 carbs per meal. That's not bad at all. That's like 3-4 tacos. Small burger and fries, Even a burrito bowl at Chipotle.

Try eating more lean meats than you did before. Hardly any carbs or sugars. Sub a veggie for what used to be fries, or a potato. But you can still eat like half a serving of a potato too.

I try to keep count on my carbs and sugars every day. Its hard and you will go over, but its ok. Just try to do better the next day.

My A1C when I was diagnosed was 7.8. Last time I had it checked it was 5.4.

If you do all this, then you can avoid medicine for it. If you need the meds its not the worst thing in the world.

Hope this helps. If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask me.

I've went through diabetes for 6 years. It's a very serious disease and you should take care of it now. To start off, stop drinking soda and sugary drinks including fruit juice (oj, apple juice).

There's quite a few things to look out for but I just was able to get off all meds for diabetes (was on 3 different kinds and have tried a total of 8 different kinds.) I'm able to control my blood sugar by what I eat but I went what most people call "extreme" and I went vegan in July and pretty much reversed diabetes within 4 months on being on a whole foods diet (hardly any processed food) and working out. You realize how much of a drug addict you are by eating bad/processed food.

I figure I rather give up bad food than my foot, vision and my life. Please PM if you have any questions, i have a lot of experience with the disease and went through multiple deaths in my family because of this disease.

It's no joke and before you know it you dug yourself into a hole you can't get out of.
