My house and tree. Outside the big tree (with no lights) blocks the poll that we wrapped lights around, but that's pretty cool. I really need to add more lights next year, but it looks pretty good given my limitations.

      Indoor tree was pretty easy.

          Re: Christmas/Holidays 2012

Set all of this up today. Added a little more than I did last year. I'm planning on adding some lights to my porch window and maybe pick up some kind of lighted display for the right side of my porch. Looks dark on the right. Gonna pick up another set of lights tomorrow. And yes, if you noticed, I am missing a shutter on my upper left window. Blew off during Hurricane Sandy and haven't gotten it fixed yet.

My Christmas tree I put up last week.

So excited for Christmas this year. This has been an awesome year for my family, so we're going to pay it forward. We found a family we want to help support during the Holidays.

                Re: Christmas/Holidays 2012

We've got a soon to be 5 year old son (his birthday is this Thursday as a matter of fact), and a soon to be 2 year old daughter (January). They are both crazy excited for Christmas this year, especially my son. I'm also excited, but for a different reason, as i've got 15 days off in a row through Christmas .

We've also given into the Elf on the Shelf craze, and it's a blast. Two nights ago, thanks to an idea we found online, I propped the elf up on the top of the toilet with a toy fishing pole and threw goldfish in the toilet. When my son came out to take a leak in the morning, he bursted out laughing. It's so much fun, and it's a really good tool to use. They think he really goes to the North Pole every night to report to Santa, so they rarely do anything naughty around him . That was the only "naughty" thing he's done. Last night, we baked cookies and propped him up beside them covered in sugar and holding a spatula.

We've managed to do a really good Christmas for them this year. I can't wait to see the looks on their faces Christmas morning.

Elf on The Shelf is awesome. We've been doing it for my daughter for about 4 years now.

My son now asks where "Robert" is. That's what my daughter named him. She has to know its game, because you see them everywhere and she even asked why he had a tag on him before, but she continues to play along and loves hunting for him every morning.

He's getting into more trouble as Christmas approaches. From drawing on our pictures (dry erase marker on the frame) from writing his name in tooth paste on my daughters bathroom mirror to making snow angles on the table with the powder from powder donuts.

If anyone has any ideas (love the fishing one) pass them along.

That's awesome Kearnzo and DM! My girl is a little too young for the Elf on the shelf, but I'm thinking next year she might understand it. She kinda gets Santa now but doesn't understand it completely. Great stuff!

We just got into the Elf craze as well. The other day we put "Alf" on the christmas tree and covered the tree head to toe with toilet paper. We told our son he tp'd the tree! We also had him in the bathroom with shaving cream on his face with a razor and little mirror.

I'm deployed this christmas. I'm gonna miss my youngest first christmas. At least with the extra money I can get them some nice stuff. On the bright side I don't have to listen to Christmas music and fight traffic and crazy people.

Went to the Weilnachtsmarkt this past weekend. It was awesome because we got about 7" of snow on Friday. Glühwein for the win!

Christmas in Germany must be fantastic.

I'll post pics of the house tomorrow. I just finished the lights today.

Living in Tampa the last 12 years, just having a cold Christmas brings back good childhood memories. One thing that is different here is, that while everyone decorates the inside of their house, very few people put any decorations/lights on the outside of their house.

                                Re: Christmas/Holidays 2012

We're leaving next Friday after work to head up to Maryland for Christmas. My manager tells me today that I should take off that Friday since it will be dead here anyway! My wife will still have to work but hopefully get off early. This also takes off some stress of getting the vehicle packed up and extra driving. I would have had to drive to and from work including a stop at daycare which round trip would have been close to 3 hours. I'm pumped!

Edit: I need to take some pics of my house and put them up here. Can't believe I haven't done that.
