I do not collect jerseys anymore. I believe I stopped buying them when I stopped wearing them, likely around 7th grade. That said, I still have all my old Champion NBA jerseys hooked on a single hanger in storage. I can't do anything with them but they're fun to look at. My little brothers also collected a few years ago and they have a closet full of them. Again, there's not much use for them now, but it's fun to look at all the different styles and whatnot. Sometimes I'll take one and wear it around the house when I'm back home, just for fun.
This is my favorite of theirs:

Also, I wouldn't say I collect sneakers, but I like wearing styles I like when I play basketball, so I have an assortment of Jordans, most of which are in nice condition when I buy them, but eventually get run through.
I'm very similar in that regard. I'd bet a lot of people are. I only buy Jordan's I've truly had my eye on for some time, or pairs that strike me as unique. I'm guessing there's likely a faction like us and then there's a faction that hops on the train of any hyped new release. I surely know some of the latter, who will hear a catchy name for an upcoming Jordan release (Wolf Grey, Space Jam, Bred's, etc.) and the idea of its importance is what drives them to a purchase. That is not the case in my regard. Sometimes what I like is popular, but I don't let what's popular dictate my purchase.
One of my favorite pairs (R.I.P.):

I suffered a terrible ankle sprain in them after dunking on a pack of 8th graders I was coaching (long story) but otherwise they had a great run.
