It can really shake you awake and make you question "what am I doing with my life". Just glad to hear you came out alright.
Got t-boned by a drunk at 45 MPH. Between front and back passenger side, where I was sitting up front. Came away with a little brush burn on my elbow. No soreness, but the Mickey D's we had was ruined.

Had that moment too. Lights so bright. After the collision, looked over and caught the dude and his girl's eyes. Then they banged it into reverse and bounced out. Good Samaritan chased them down and got them shortly thereafter.

I'll never forget those seconds. I can replay them even now 3 years later.

Re: Never Take Life for Granted

If I ever had an eye opening experience, it was my best friend passing away from a rare blood disorder about 3 years ago.

He was my right hand man. We did everything together. Like a brother to me, and the next thing you know, I'm watching the doctors pull the plug on his life. That was a tough spell to break out of. Dropped out for a semester of college to get my mind back together.

But losing him taught me the same lesson the OP named this thread. He wouldn't have wanted me to sit around and mope the rest of my life. Like him, he would have wanted me to take advantage of the opportunities I was given and pursue my dreams. I did a self-reevaluation and told myself from that moment forward, I wasn't going to be doing nothing anymore. Everyday I was going to be doing something to direct my life forward.

One of the reasons I walked on to a DII college baseball team. I didn't want to let that part of my life go unfinished. He wouldn't have wanted that.

Been living by that ever since.

If you believe in god, you realize everyone that you come in contact with has a purpose. Although I couldn't initially explain why it happened to him, I now see the effect he had on mine and many other people's lives and for that I am forever grateful and am at peace with the whole thing.

I'm really glad you are okay, Chase. I was afraid you were going to post that you hit a deer (or one hit you), since that's been a real problem in the south this year. There have been 114 incidents in Shelby County (Memphis area) this year, including three human fatalities.

Stay safe and watch out over there.

Re: Never Take Life for Granted

I've hit three deer in my 8 years of driving and all three were within a mile of my house.

I hit one in my Civic when I was 16 and did $3800 worth of damage.

Then I hit two when I was driving a 2002 F250 and did absolutely nothing to the truck, but demolished both deer.

I really haven't seen too many this year. We have had a few in our yard, but my dad isn't even seeing too many in the greenfields he planted back behind our house. Usually, you can walk out on my back deck most any winter morning and see deer.. we do instigate it by feeding them.

Thanks for your story and glad you are okay. You brought up a very good message for us all to remember and I personally need a constant reminder ever so often so I thank you. I have been shot at and hit by a DUI driver so your message is very important in my life.

Three of my closest friends all hit a deer in the past 2 weeks. I **** you not. Two cars pretty messed up, one was just tapped. I think that's one of the more dangerous things out there... Friggin' deer.
