    bench press competition?

Who's in? Bench 100 pounds over your weight for reps! Competition seems to help my motivation. Honesty of course...we can update our stats on last day of each month.

I haven't lifted since my playing days in college (about 6 years ago). Probably couldn't bench a box of Apple Jacks now.

How much do you weigh? I bet 90% of the people on here couldn't bench their weight for reps.

Not only that, but trying to put up heavy weight is pointless.

You really believe so? I do not know much about weight lifting in terms of what people can and cannot do. I would guess there's a hot spot right around my weight and heavier. For me, standing 6'3'' 170, and because 170 is not heavy, benching my own weight with repetitions is not difficult at all. However, clearly I can understand there'd be many other weights where it wouldn't be that simple.

The idea of benching my own weight plus 100lbs. though? Not a chance. I can barely lift 55 pounds over my weight... one time (again, I think it's easier for me because my weight begins at such a relatively low number to begin with).

By reps, I was thinking 3 sets of 8 or 10. The lighter you are the better chance you have. I'm 6'4" 220 with long arms. I can bench 225 a few times but no chance at reps. I could do the reps of 170. Unless guys that use this website are in better shape than I imagine, I'm sticking by the statement that 90% can't do reps of their own weight.

Yeah, I'm 5'7" ~175 and I don't know that I could bench half of that. Haven't done a bench press in years though and never with free weights (always used a machine). The exercise machine I use now uses resistance rather than weight.

I can't do 100 over my weight for reps...but I can easily do 25 or 30 over my weight for 3 sets of 10 or 12.

I might be lucky if I can do 100 lbs UNDER my own weight at this point.

Yeah, 220 is a tough spot to be in for most people. That's definitely into "solidly heavy" range for anybody at any size. I mean, I'm sure some folks can crank that out but it's still... heavy.

On the flip side, I could go three sets of 8 or 10 at my mark but again, it's a relatively light number (170) in comparison to what people like you would have to do.

                        Re: bench press competition?

Before the accident I could bench 225 8 to 10 reps for 3 sets. I was 195 pounds at the time, I never went for max. I don't think I could bench 295 back then.

I'm starting to lift again, probably starting with 35 pound dumbbells because of my back and that my legs are still weak.
I am the lesson after the fall.

I got 125% of my weight back when I played football, as we got shirts in weightlifting for that.

Idk about the math as i'm too lazy, but I weight around 165 and could probably bench at least 205 right now(I don't max out anymore)

                              I can do 230-240 with those reps/sets.
