Birthday is a celebration of life. Christmas/Hanukkah is about being selfless and caring.

My wife and stopped celebrating valentines day years ago. We just have too much in such a short span. Christmas, Wife's birthday, Son's birthday, her dad's birthday and my daughters school tuition. Now we just enjoy a valentines pizza and a cold beer.

That's a totally wrong outlook tho. If you have that outlook, then yeah. But Valentines day is just about making your S/O feel special with gifts and whatnot. You don't get flowers and do special things like that 365 days a year.

Then whats the point of being together the other 364 days if you aren't showing that S/O they're special throughout the year?

To me, V-Day is pointless because it takes a significant reason to be special to your S/O and renders it moot because everybody else is doing the same thing. How is that person special when everybody else is receiving the same thing?

That's just an assumption tho. Nobody has said that the other 364 days are spent just ignoring the S/O. It's not like on Feb 14, guys are just like "oh, hey. Sup. Here's some flowers."

Now of course, if a guy does that, yeah Valentines day is dumb.

I just think its silly to celebrate the EXACT same thing every other couple does and to think its somehow an extra special day. Nothing is stopping people from giving flowers on March 16th or August 28th. I would wager receiving flowers on days that aren't VD would probably make that S/O feel more special than whatever happens on VD.

I'm not against celebrating V-Day, but I just think its a silly empty holiday that people put way too much stock into.

So this probably isn't the best place for this, but I may be looking at one REALLY funny weekend:

Friday: OPENING NIGHT (!!!!!!!) with a girl I’ve been friends with since before kindergarten. Saying she is beautiful is an understatement. I wouldn’t say that I like her or anything that drastic, but there’s stuff beyond “just friends” in both camps (can confirm with 96 percent confidence). Issue is, she leaves for NOLA on Sunday and I may not see her until Summer.

Saturday: Baseball game with a girl I REALLY (can’t stress that enough) like and is absolute GF material. Likes baseball more than I do, has season tickets. Absolutely good girl, as good and drama-free as they come. Pristine. But we’re still in that awkward dating-but-not-really-dating-yet stage.

Sunday: Baseball game with a girl I’ve had relations with and really do not care for anything more from. Kyle Field Bat **** crazy. Guano loco.

For Valentines Day, I'm going home at 4, bringing home take-out chinese food. Putting our pajamas on and spending the the night with our 6 old watching cartoons, games, puzzles, etc. This is our life. We don't need a designated day to say how much we care about each other. We say it and show it EVERY day.
