I watched the video this morning. Crazy, but they are lucky that they are looking at injuries instead of deaths. Had the meteor exploded closer to the ground this story would have been a disaster.

From what I'm hearing, they shot at it.
Had they not shot at it, we'd probably be looking at deaths.--

Where are you hearing that?
Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said the incident showed the need for leading world powers to develop a system to intercept objects falling from space.
"At the moment, neither we nor the Americans have such technologies" to shoot down meteors or asteroids, he said, according to the Interfax news agency.

That asteroid (different than a meteor) is not headed towards Earth. It'll pass "close" by, but isn't on a collision course.

Re: Off Topic 2013
Yeah, at least it wasn't like the Tunguska event back in 1903 or 05 when a larger meteor exploded near the ground in a remote area of Siberia. The force of that explosion was enough to level trees for miles around so it was good that it occurred in a very remote area and not a more densely populated urban area.
Yeah, that one will pass inside the orbits of some satellites though. I think people are already speculating if the Russia strike could be related though such as a smaller rock orbiting with it that was fully captured by Earth's gravity.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

I don't know this for sure but I've heard some people say that the Russian meteor came from a completely different direction then the larger one passing today.Battle.net: xXKING08Xx

Asteroids heading to Earth? I only trust a few men for this job and that would be Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Steve Buscemi, Owen Wilson, and Michael Clarke Duncan.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment
