Anyone ever had eggs from a farm that you didn't purchase in a store?

I grew up living next to my grandmother and I got accustomed to eating vegetables and fruit out of the garden, but they didn't raise animals when I was a kid like my great grandparents did.

Now my brother in law has a few chickens and has started a small garden at their house (it's actually kind of an elaborate setup and I was impressed with his carpentry skills) and they are laying eggs. There's a dozen of them in the refrigerator at my house and I'm debating on cooking a few of them.

They have more of a brownish tint to them rather than being white.

They should be fine, egg shell color is based on the breed of chicken, white, brown, even turquoise.

Some of our chickens laid turquoise eggs. We haven't gotten eggs from our chickens for quite some time, but we still have 3 left. At this point, they're fairly old. At the time I really hated it, but looking back, I'm really glad I grew up on a farm and at times I really miss it, but of course I go back home in less than a month until the end of May and I'm sure I'll be singing a different tune at that point.

Just had the best meal I have had all week.

I got on the grill and cooked my usual BBQ red pepper chicken (just what I call it) and my mom cooked all the side items (home made mashed potatoes, baked beans, mac n cheese, cornbread).

My sister called me a mommas boy because of it.. lol.

I told her, I'm just picking up cooking tips for some of my stay at home dates with the girlfriend. Knowing how to cook is a huge advantage.
