    Re: Off Topic 2013

I've had an iPod nano in HS before iPhones and then smart phones took off.

I also had an iPod touch for a bit, but sold it to a friend. I don't have a need for one with my phone.

Just a few days ago I gave away a perfectly good iPhone 3G because I don't need it and a friend needed a phone. It's funny to think people were paying hundreds of dollars for that thing a few years ago.

I'll never forget when the iPhone first came out and this girl brought one to school. I thought it was the coolest thing ever and that thing was so limited in comparison to what we have now. Texting took off when I was in HS and so did bluetooth. I guess that's one thing I'll be able to say I saw first hand.

Now we're just not surprised by any sort of technology that comes out. We expect the best and bitch about things no matter what. These gaming forums are a prime example. Little kid chase would be in love with modern football games and dudes are still trying to convince themselves that NCAA 06 is superior to NCAA 14. Nostalgia is a bitch..

I thought Super Mario Bros 3 and Excitebike was the coolest thing ever.

If I had an ipod (do they make any with "regular" headphones?) i'd be addicted to podcasts. Actually I already am, i've stopped listening to the radio at night and have taken to listening to back episodes of podcasts that I enjoy.

Right now in my personal podcast rotation I listen to:

        1. Movies About Girls
        2. The Danger Room Podcast
        3. The Gentleman's Guide to Midnite Cinema
        4. Coverville
        5. Cartoon Retrocast

I sometimes listen to the Stone Cold podcast depending on what he's yammering on about.

I only listen to music in two situations:

          1) When Im shooting baskets around alone or lifting weights.
          2) When Im walking to school to wake me up in the morning because I don't like coffee.

There are some exceptions, but mainly I don't listen to music at all other than this.

I understand the earbuds in the grocery store thing, but what is the problem with picking out the music you want to listen to before you start driving?

Would you rather I be fiddling around on my phone to find a song while I'm driving?

I listen to sports talk radio when driving by myself to work or home.

With the wife she likes country (and I've grown to like it too), so we have the local country station on when we are driving on weekends.

Not a huge music guy, whereas some people I know are seriously defined by music. Nothing wrong with that though.

Oh, I also listen to classical or other chill types of music at work sometimes when I'm trying to zone out and get stuff done.

We're fortunate to have a few quality sports talk shows in Birmingham for both mid day and the afternoon/night. I listen to those a bunch.

I listen to music in the mornings, though.. I don't see anything wrong with picking the music before driving either.

My mother in law still has a tube tv in her living room. And until I bought her a LED monitor Saturday, she still was using a CRT monitor from 1996 with the computer I bought her back in May.

My parents still have tube tvs in their house. But then again they refuse to change. They just got a dvd player 4 years ago. At this pace it will be another decade before they get a blu ray player.

When it gets to the point we going out to lunch together in a group and you say hey lets all take my car and it takes you 5 minutes to find a song you like before you even pull off, then yeah, it grinds my gears big time.

I absolutely love music! I almost always have music on, I think going to concerts is one of the most fun things you can do. The atmosphere always seems incredible.
Also, I work construction and of course, music is always on =)

I only have my earbuds in when Im in public by myself whether on the train, school, park, gym, sometimes a store but not always. Pretty much whenever I want the time to fly by, Im listening to music. If Im in the car I may skip tracks that Im not really feeling at the time but if Im in the car with people the music usually doesnt matter. Its usually the passengers that get all handsy with the music anyway.

Nope, 50 inch plasma lol, that might actually make it worse. At least the antenna picks up all the local channels!

                              There's that condescension again...

Anyhow, regarding music, whenever I'm in my car is when I'm listening to radio. I'll rarely keep it locked on a certain station, but when I do, it's usually rock. Normally though, I'll flip through and settle on a song I like and then when the station gets to one I don't, it's rinse and repeat. When I'm at home, though, often times I'll turn on Pandora, Spotify, Songza, or something like that and listen to music that way.
