Master of Business Administration
Do any of you guys have an MBA and did you get it after you'd already begun your career? I'm in manufacturing engineering and want to make a move to mgmt. My executive mentor recommended that I look into getting my MBA since it's basically free because the company will pay the bill. How taxing was it with your job and all other things in life?

Lots of people do it.....no different then going to college while working full time to be honest. Just have to manage your time. DVR will be your best friend. -

Yeah, my cousin did this while I was working with him. It's stressful, but unavoidable. Basically you go home and have class/homework instead of relaxing, so just have to manage your time well so you don't go crazy.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Master of Business Administration
Nice! It's awesome that it's free...that's key. If I had that offer in front of me I'd probably take it no matter what just cause it's expensive otherwise.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

If school was free, I'd definitely be more apt to get on with that process. But I'm not sure if fitting in a school schedule when I already have extremely limited time working 40+ hours a week is possible... Gotta pay the bills first and foremost, but then feel trapped in a dead-end job.
The vicious cycle. I need to figure out a a plan to work enough but also take classes.
Sorry to ramble, as I'm not even talking about an MBA here, just processing what's been on my mind recently and this thread magically popped up...NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

They have programs out there for working adults. They have online programs as well. The Professional MBA program at South Carolina is one such program for folks already in their careers. I'm meeting with education relations next week to lay out all of my options then get the ball rolling.

Some schools have working requirements...you will have a better chance at being accepted if you have more professional work experience.Comment

I would do it, but my company would have to foot the bill. I can't take another student loan.Originally posted by J. ColeFool me one time that's shame on you. Fool me twice can't put the blame on you. Fool me three times, **** the peace sign, load the chopper let it rain on you.

Re: Master of Business Administration
If it can lead to advancement in your field, do it. You'll work hard for 2-3 years, but you'll be rewarded nicely.
I don't have much else to offer because I never went for my MBA (doesn't apply for my career choices), but I think it's amazing whenever someone wants to further educate themselves."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Master of Business Administration
Definitely worth the effort. I earned my MBA from Alabama while working full time with the government. You will have to be a professional at managing your time efficiently, but it will be worth it in the long run. If I had to do it over again, I would have probably done with a more specialized masters program, because I believe the course load with a MBA is at 60 semester hours, If I remember correctly. Most schools offer a masters program, normally a masters in science with a specialization in whatever field you want it in. I know people I work with who are working towards a MS in Acquisitions and Contract Management (for example) and the course load with that is only 25 or 30 semester hours.Comment

Re: Master of Business Administration
I'm currently working full-time and getting my MBA. I work at a university, so it's free for me. I've been taking 2 night classes a semester, and it does make life more stressful. The main thing is just setting aside time to keep up on class work. I get an hour for lunch, so I use most of that time to read and work on homework, then set some time aside on weekends to finish the rest. It's definitely not easy, but it will greatly increase my job opportunities once I finish.Comment
