Re: Hey Kids!! Remember me!?!?!?
I think I remember the post...
Was it this?
MISS THING (originally published 1/31/07)
The older I get, the more I realize how good we had it as kids. As my life train continues to bullet through my 30's, I realize just how good it was to be a kid. Not College or High School aged kid. Heck, not even really Elementary School or Junior High. I mean being a KID. A toddler. A Pre-Schooler.
My youngest daughter just turned 5 a few weeks back and everyday she is growing up, mentally, physically and emotionally, right in front of my eyes. But, at the core, she is still living the life that I so miss.
Being that age you are ruled by your imagination. You have a different view on the world. No stress. No pressure. You can be what you want to be without being concerned with reality. My little one recently informed me that when she grows up she plans on being a Candy Maker/Lifeguard/Cage Fighter. I love it. That's where her head is today. I lived that in my own life and I miss it today. When I was 5, I was going to be Hank Aaron during the summer and during the off-season I'd drive a big rig like "B.J. and the Bear".
I miss feeling small in a twin size bed.
I miss the feeling of pride when I learned something new like tying my shoe.
I miss moon boots.
I miss two hour long games of tag.
I miss planning my whole day around my favorite cartoon.
I miss the days when playing outside was my cardio.
I miss cooties.
As much as I enjoy a good game of Rainbow 6: Vegas on my Xbox 360, it doesn't touch a rousing round of Duck-Duck-Goose! I love my HDTV and TiVo, but I had just as much fun with an empty appliance box.
I miss forts.
I miss spit balls.
I miss thinking that around the block was a world away.
I miss playing Super Friends and arguing over who got to be Superman.
I miss a good game of pickle, monkey in the middle or smear the queer.
I miss THAT feeling on Christmas morning.
I miss the days when a quarter meant more than a dollar because it was shiny and worked in Pac-Man.
You hear people say all the time "...oh if I could just go back knowing then what I know now..."
Not me, knowing then what I know now, would just ruin then.
It's what I didn't know that I miss most of all.Listen to The Remodeling Clay Podcast!

Re: Hey Kids!! Remember me!?!?!?
Not sure how I should feel about the fact that my thread gets less traction than "I HATE MAYONNAISE".
Hmmmm... I blame my love of mayonnaise.Listen to The Remodeling Clay Podcast!
