Best way to clean computer of dust?

What's the best way to clean the inside of your computer? Mainly getting the dust out and all that. Compressed air?

You can get a can of compressed air for a few bucks at wal mart. Just don't hold it sideways or upside down when you spray.

Any kind of air. Air compressor is better just simply because you have far more air and power compared to the compressed cans. Now if you don't have access to a air compressor then yea just run to Wally world and grab the can.

A hose attachment from a vacuum works great too. Especially if you have gigantic fuzz balls inside that will end up flying around your house once you blow it out.

Just have to be careful not to touch any components due to the static generated.

Yep. When I worked for my college Engineering computer department we'd use a compressor to blow out all the machines in a lab.

Dumb question, Can static electricity pass through plastic?

No, but plastic can hold a static charge.

You could ground your vacuum hose, wrap foil around the end and then ground it using a wrist ground strap.

When using compressed air or especially an air compressor, be careful of fans because if you use the air to spin the fans it becomes a little generator and can fry components (not entirely uncommon when dusting power supplies).

The best solution is to just make sure you filter all your fan intakes so you don't have to dust.

I agree don't directly touch the computer with the vacuum hose. Use a combination of air and a vacuum because that dust gets everywhere after you air it out. Once the dust is out there use the vacuum.

No, but a charge could potentially build up on the plastic where the air, dust, and plastic are colliding.

Edit, looks like Burns already got this one.

Fact: Most computers get so dusty from people Frapping in front of them.

                            Frappers.
