    Minor Health Scare

Just trying to ask for some help, in case anyone here on OS has had some Heart occurrences, or went through some thing similar in the past that can offer me some advice.

3 Nights ago Wednesday night, I came home from work, had an Energy drink with my dinner I felt okay other than being a little tired. Then when I tried to go to sleep I felt really irritable, and restless.. I had a slight headache but I just kept laying down as I thought If I could get to sleep I'll sleep it off.. what happened instead was my heartbeat sped up pretty rapidly, my breathing was off, and I just had rapid heartbeats through out the night. I ended up not sleeping that night, called out of work the next day because I was scared to death of going and passing out while working or something.

I eventually got to sleep around 7 am and slept until like 2 pm, but when I woke up I had some soreness in the Left side of my chest all day, and I had absolutely no appetite. Like the thought of food would displease me, I ended up having some bread, soup, and a Protein shake for that day. It's Saturday Night and I do feel a lot better, (Got my appetite back yay) started eating regularly again, but I still don't feel quite right. I still feel a slight soreness in my chest, and while my breathing and heart rate has some what returned to normal it's still feels a little higher than normal.

Does anyone know what happened to me? or has anyone had a similar experience? I have to admit I have been under a Ton of stress lately at work, I thought I was dealing with it.. I've been working a lot of long hours at a stressful job, combined with the fact I was sick for a few days last week and went to work anyway. I drank a couple of energy drinks the past few weeks, I wonder if that contributed to it? I wasn't chugging em just one every few nights or so. I've stopped caffeine intake since then.

I don't know if I experienced a minor Heart Attack or what. Maybe the massive stress from work, combined with the Energy drink I had that night triggered some sort of Panic attack, and I developed an Irregular Heartbeat through that night? I'm still a bit scared because I'm not back to 100%, I'm trying to take it really easy though and thankfully I've had scheduled time off from work to rest.

Sounds like some type of anxiety attack.

I don't know what it could be, though there are probably lots of possibilities. If your heart rate and breathing still aren't right after 24 hours then you should probably go to the ER and get checked out just to be on the safe side expecially since you're also having chest pains. Definitely don't want to mess with stuff like that.

I'm not sure either it does sound like a prolonged anxiety attack though. I've had situations where I get very nervous/scared and my heart feels like it's skipping a beat and my stomach feels like it's gonna flop out of my body. Probably not the same thing but it's the closest that I've experienced.

I would call your doctor. Just see what he thinks, maybe its nothing, maybe it is significant. Either way it would be best to find out as soon as possible.

Sounds like an anxiety attack, but it would be best to tell your physician exactly how you described it to us. Print the page out if need be. Hope everything turns out OK for you.

Have some similar incidents in the past year but mine would last for 2-4 days and it only happened when I went to bed and within a half hour of falling asleep I would awake with my heart racing. Scared the crap out of me. I talked to my Dr about it last week during a routine check up and he told me several of his patients have experienced similar unexplained episodes

In closing he told me it probably was caused by stress and since it went away to not worry. Just to play it safe though get a check up. Good luck

I would definitely head to the ER since the, he chest pain is still going on. If you have insurance that is what it's for. Don't mess around with your health.

I am pretty sure you are okay, there are many no health risk things it could be. Stress, anxiety, inappropriate vagus nerve stimulation, high dosage caffeine, or a panic attack. That being said I am not a doctor, that's why I advise you to get yourself looked at sooner than later. There is a lot going on out there right now and it would be better safe than sorry.

Wish you the best and will keep in my thought. Keep us updated.

Speak to a doctor if you can. And stay away from energy drinks for a while. Especially before bed.

Yes, please leave those energy drinks alone. They are terrible for you.

I had heart issues a few years back. Turned out I had palpitations, which means that sometimes, my heartbeat is off rhythm. It's nothing that is detrimental or anything. I would go see a cardiologist and let them do an EKG and ultrasound. It's a good precautionary measure.

                      Re: Minor Health Scare

Had something somewhat similar happen over the course of 3 months during the summer, but in my case my heart would just skip beats. Every 2 or 3 beats all day and all nights my heart would skip a beat and beat out of time. Went to physician + cardiologist (even went to the ER a couple times when it got really bad) and all test results said i was fine. I had EKGs, chest xrays, nuclear stress tests, the works. Finally after all that time it just sort of went away. I'm counting it up to stress and anxiety leading up to my wedding and also just some general health anxiety. Through it all every doctor i went to asked the same questions regarding caffiene + alcohol use, so i'd definetly recommend dropping off the energy drinks for a while

Basically i learned that when it comes to weird heartbeat rhythms, there's about a million reasons that can cause them. Once you go to the doctors, they'll try to eliminate the important reasons (like heart problems and such) and as long as it isnt serious, its just a matter of either trying to identify whats causing them or learning to relax about them.

Biggest thing i learned was that the more you worry, the worse it gets. But its really, really hard not to worry when something like this happens. Long story short, talk to your physician, tell them everything you take (check labels on any supplements you take) like caffiene, alcohol, drugs, etc. While they probably wont be able to tell you what caused it, they can at least do a couple tests (like an EKG) to see if it really is something you need to be concerned with.

You shouldn't be asking random people on the internet. You should be going to see a doctor.

I think he was just more or less trying to figure out if anyone has experienced what he was experiencing. I'm also sure he is well aware that going to the Dr. is the right thing to do. Don't really see a problem with him just racking some OS Brothers brains for there thoughts that may or may not help him narrow down to try and get some closure to his problem.

Yeah I'm going to see a Doctor as soon as I can due to some circumstances with my insurance I haven't been able to, but even if I am feeling better which I do with each day I feel my heartbeat, pulse normalizing a little more, I'm still going to take a visit just to be on the safe side.

I'm agreeing that it was probably an Anxiety attack that set this off. Multiple factors including Stress at work, working long hours and being tired, being sick the week before and still working, and the high dosage of Caffeine probably just completely set it off that night.

I'm going to completely give up Energy drinks, don't know why I was getting them in the first place.. they are just filled with **** you don't need; and I am going to dramatically change the way in which i approach work.. not going to be first in/last out anymore, I'm just going to try and come in do what I can, and not think about work until the next time I come back to try and manage stress better.

I had this about a month and a half ago. Worst feeling in the world.

I didn't experience pain though, that is a concern. Definitely get checked and some EKG's and what not. Better safe than sorry. PPL don't want to go to the doc sometimes b/c of cost... $ don't mean **** 6 feet under.

Anyway, I didn't have pain, but had a fluttering sensation in my chest & left shoulder. Heart rate was jacked up (130 beats per minute, resting) and B/P was 160 over 103. Wnet to the ER, had multiple tests done, all came back normal... just high heart rate. It started to come down and they sent me home. Had a cardio-echogram done and all came back normal.

Chalked it up to heart palpaltations (sp.) and anxiety/panic attack. I've learned not to get pissed off @ stuff not worth it. Major difference. Made some lifestyle changes as well (mainly caffeine).
