Re: Any highschool athletes out there?
I'll check back in here because I had state this past Friday and Saturday, I went down for the open 400 and the 4x800. In prelims I anchored for our 4x800 and split a 1:56 which was 1 second off my PR, we ran a 7:54 which was slow for us but we got into finals. In the 400 I came in with a 49.2 seed but unfortunately I just didn't have it in me and ran a 50.3 and I didn't qualify, but that didn't bother me because I wanted to focus on the relay. Come Saturday it was about 60 degrees and raining with a little wind... Crappy. The adrenaline was really flowing though so we came out ready. This 4x8 was the best race I've ever been a part of. I anchored again and got the baton in 3rd place, there was some shuffling around through the first lap and I found my self in 4th going into the last lap. The leader was a solid 20 meters in front of me so I had to make up serious ground. I moved up and got into 3rd heading into the last 200 and just threw it all out there and kicked down the 2nd place team and got within half of a second of the win. Even though I couldn't quite pull it out, splitting a 1:52.7, getting 2nd in one of the faster 4x800 states in the country, and hitting 7:46 with a great group of guys that I spent all of high school with was a great way to go out. If anyone wants to see the race it's up on YouTube and I'll post it if anyone is interested.Chicago Bulls | Chicago Bears | Chicago White Sox | Chicago BlackhawksComment

That sounds like a killer anchor leg.
Reminds me of a time I had a 400 in a dual meet (after running the 1600, so the 400 was for a workout). I was in the last heat and the guys on the other team wanted to all cross the finish line at the same time holding hands. For whatever reason that pissed me off to no end. I was livid in my head as the gun went off and ran the fastest I'd ever run. I figured I'd die after the first 200, but I kept chugging and ran a 55.4 400. Keep in mind that this was the last heat, essentially racing scrubs (me included lol). I beat everyone else by more than 100m lol.
Sadly I don't think I had the competitive drive to get that hyped and focused for every race, but I tried. I just don't think I "loved running" enough.Last edited by mgoblue; 05-28-2013, 07:24 PM.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Any highschool athletes out there?
I'm 18, just graduated from high school, but I played football for 2 years, never played much on Varsity, just JV stuff.
Played basketball for 3, almost the same situation but got a little bit of playing time on Varsity at least, but not a whole lot.
Did track for a year, ran the 100, 200, and 400 and didn't make much noise.
Did golf sophomore year and I was decent but again didn't do much.
However I've played baseball basically my entire life, and I've actually gotten fairly good the past 4-5 years. I've played outfield my whole career, and early on that's kind of like saying you're one of the worst guys on the team, but now I like it, it requires more athleticism and a great arm. My freshman year I was probably one of the better players on the team, and then my sophomore year I pulled a muscle in my upper thigh, kinda close to my groin, and so I couldn't use my speed like I used to, where I'd just hit a grounder and try to beat the throw to first. I had to become a better hitter and I did, until last year happened, and I just SUCKED. Last year, I went on an all-year slump, could hardly hit ****, relied on getting walked or beaned almost all year until Districts, when I finally began to start hitting well again. And of course, my leg was bothering me whenever I sprinted hard, so that sucked. And finally, this year I've kinda gotten back on track. I'm in better shape than I used to be, I stretch that muscle and do the proper routine for it before every game, and it's worked well so far. Almost hit a home run the other night.
And it's funny, because basketball is my favorite sport. I like playing baseball, sure, but it's boring as hell when spectating.Twitter: @TyroneisMaximus

We're the team in neon green. My leg starts at about 5:55 and at around 7:00 is when things get kinda crazy. It's weird because I'm normally really competitive but with the way this race panned out I'm not even disappointed with us not getting the win. It was a solid way to close out high school track.Chicago Bulls | Chicago Bears | Chicago White Sox | Chicago BlackhawksComment

Re: Any highschool athletes out there?
I play Varsity Golf, but I'm not that good. My town's more focused on basketball and football, so if you sign up for golf, you automatically make the team. I'm better than the rest of my team at least, most of whom are beginners.Comment

Re: Any highschool athletes out there?
I did play basketball (center) and football (receiver/tight end) freshman year and sophomore year but stopped this past year. Just no point in it anymore since we suck and everyone on the team complains and hates each other. Not fun anymore.Currently focusing on: NCAA Football 12, NFL Head Coach 09Comment
