    Baseball:
Remove the chalk line in the box
Hit every corner of home plate then twice in the middle, then two bat spins before getting set
Climbing the outfield fence before game started

    Bowling:
First practice ball is thrown with eyes closed.

      Re: Sports Superstitions

-I would never swing at the first pitch of my first at-bat

-I always had the same throwing partner during warm-ups and we'd make the same number of throws every time.

Not really a superstition, but whenever I drew a walk I would drop the bat at home plate and sprint to first.

I also did that one. Coach would yell at me so many times because by my second or third AB they'd start piping 'em right down Broadway on the first pitch.

          Re: Sports Superstitions

It sounds like people are listing nuances/habits/routines more than superstitions. I was coming more from the mentality that I will fare better if I do what I'm doing (like an external force would intervene otherwise).

I'm the same, but in a slightly different way. I'll always take the first pitch if it's a new pitcher. I want to see that guy's arm angle, gauge his timing, etc. I take a mental picture thereafter for the remainder of the time he's in the game. If a reliever comes in, I will automatically take his first pitch as well (also what often happens is that I will face a lefty than a righty or vice versa, so I would be switching sides of the plate as well).

But again, it's a scheme/method for me and not a superstition per se.

            Re: Sports Superstitions

To me routines/superstitions were the same thing, I had to do my set routine that I got into after a few games on JV otherwise things just felt off.
