 Re: Uncommon Opinions

I've got into cleanup mode lately. If it's someone I know I'll never talk to again I delete them. If I might need to sometime, but I don't care about anything in their life I will unfollow.I find most posts on Facebook are annoying and attention seeking, compliment fishing, or self righteous pandering. I usually leave my statuses to me ranting on sports teams. Other than that, if we aren't close in the real then you don't need to know much about my personal life.

I think I spend most of my time on Facebook wondering why I'm "friends" with these people.

I could probably get by with twitter, but once you actually want to reply to a status the 140 character limit gets annoying.Comment

 Re: Uncommon Opinions

In general I hate social media.

However, a few years back I originally did set up a facebook page to stay connected with my distant friends up north in Rochester and out west in Seattle. I don't post or chat on there much at all, but I did like to be able to see what they are up to.

Then after awhile I deactivated it but my wife loves FB so I was requested to reopen it. Fine...but I don't want to connect to any of the kids (they are all out of the house) because I've been through FB drama before with them and have no tolerance for any more of it.

My wife gets annoyed because I still don't check it, though. LOL

 Re: Uncommon Opinions

I'm going to bring it way back........

 AOL chat rooms

 Mplayer chat

Lycos, Excite & Angel Fire home pages

Yahoo Messenger, Yahoo Groups and Yahoo chat rooms

For those outside of the USA, MSN messenger, MSN Groups and MSN chat rooms were all the rage for non Americans

 Blackplanet, Asian Avenue, Mi Gente

Myspace - was nothing but music and GIFs every damn where

 Facebook

 Twitter

 Skype

 Instagram

 Vine
 ================================================== =====

Really it is all the same. Most people use social media either to humble brag, tell some sad story looking for pity, to recruit people to what they believe in, dog men or over glorify their kids.

Out of all them, Yahoo messenger and Yahoo chat rooms were the most fun ever. Only thing I can tolerate now is Twitter. Because at least with the character limit on Twitter, it forces people to get to the damn point. But Twitter is starting to get annoying with people posting Vines all the damn time.

I will never forget the first time I saw Skype cards in the store. I was thinking what the hell is Skype ?Comment

Having to explain to my mom why our AOL account was suspended because of something I said in a chat room.

AOL is by far my favorite. MySpace would be second. Both were great for picking up girls back in the day.Comment

 Re: Uncommon Opinions

I guess I see it as the running joke that we're all in on. We all want to believe we're more important than we actually are and social media gives us an outlet.

 Re: Uncommon Opinions

I enjoy social media and there is definitely a place for it. That being said, it can breed drama, but not if you use it correctly. I have been fortunate enough to have been put through a ton of media literacy courses in college and I think that a media literacy type course should be required for everyone to take in college, if not before that in high school. Too many people don't realize that what they put out there can by seen by most anybody if you put in the correct search terms.MLB: Minnesota Twins

 Re: Uncommon Opinions

I guess most people cannot formulate enough original thoughts to warrant a journal of some kind. I like using it to broadcast my flaming Libertarianism and follow/share things with my family.

Honestly, I use it mostly to follow sports and music.

 Re: Uncommon Opinions

If I see another Tyrese vlog video shared some where I'm going to slap somebody with powder. Women share those videos and act like he said the most original, smartest thing ever. Oh he is so wise and so mature. Umm no, he has common sense. He is saying nothing but the same things every parent told their child before when they were growing up.Comment

 I really liked My Space.

I kind of wish Facebook would adopt the ability to add music players that audiomatically started playing when you clicked on someone's page.
