    Maryland Baseball

Dunno if this has been posted or if this is the right forum, but I absolutely hate these... Football? I don't mind. However, I think baseball needs to be clean and sharp. Thoughts?

    Re: Maryland Baseball

Money is involved, it was only a matter of time before it trickled down to other college sports. If people thought it would be limited to football, they were naive. They going to do the same thing to basketball jerseys, baseball helmets, eventually down to every sport that school has. So I wouldn't be surprised to see a college hockey multiple uniform thing or college soccer multiple uniform thing some day.

It's not money, I didn't read it but I'm assuming these are under armour helmets.

Their factory is right there in Baltimore, they market themselves wherever they can in the area.

I dunno, if you do it right you can make a pretty nice profit. Look at Texas, A&M, LSU, USCe...

Almost as bad as the football helmets they had with the state flag.

They profit when they don't even fill half the seats in their park?

That's the thing. To break even, you don't need to sellout one game a week. Down south, more and more schools are realizing how easy it is to turn a profit off of baseball, especially small schools. Southeastern, for example, pretty much depends on baseball just as much as they do on football, which isn't even 10 years old yet.

And then you have schools like LSU and USCe who make more money from baseball than they know what to do with. LSU is building more suites at Alex Box just because they have the money to do that. There's really no reason to, every game that's where you're most likely to find empty seats, but they do it cause they can.

I didn't realize it was that easy to profit from baseball. Do you have any idea what the actual numbers are for a school like LSU?

I have always imagined college baseball down south is like college hockey up here. IIRC, Minnesota makes about 5 mil in profit from hockey each year.

Mmmm, I can't produce an exact number but LSU lead the nation in attendance for the 17th straight year (Seventeenth. just think about that) and they averaged 10,736 a game, and the 2nd place school was Arkansas at 7,924.

All in all last year they pulled in 472,391 fans in 44 games 200,000 greater than Arkansas (269,433).

Oh, and LSU sold out every weekend game for this season in two days.

So that should give you an idea.
