    Memory

Anyone else here have somewhat hard time remembering some things(especially when it relates to school) but then easy time remembering other stuff?

I feel like it's been like that for me for years. For things like school, I have hard time remembering information, even if I go over it so many times.

Yet other things like tv shows, sports, I can remember things that happened days/weeks ago even though I only saw/heard it ONCE.

I can remember some of the most random things that happened YEARS ago, but seems like whenever it relates to school work or something, I'm just unable to really remember it. I've tried many diff studying methods and nothing works. Maybe there's something I'm just doing wrong? Or some kind of memory issue?

Even when I do assignments for classes, the things I do are real good quality work and I get high marks on them, but its just when it comes to having to remember stuff, that I can't seem to do it.

(even if it is some sort of issue, there's obviously no way to change how I take tests/exams in school)

I can relate to that perfectly. Their are days that I would forget my head if it wasn't attached to be quite honest with you. I have a few memories from many years ago where I can recall absolutely everything. Not to get morbid but I can tell you down to the exact detail what happened on 9/11.

My short term memory's been weird lately.

I've been noticing more and more that I'll do **** like set the sleep timer for my TV to 2 hours, lay there in bed, then think "oh, ****, I need to set the sleep timer" and then I hit the button to do it and it's at 1:57 left.

      Probably not great.

yeah, I find it hard to remember things to get done at work, but I can remember lyrics to songs I haven't heard in years.

For example, I can sing the opening song to the old Nickelodeon show "Roundhouse", despite the fact it hasn't been on...nor have I watched it in 20 years.

                Re: Memory

This started happening to me several years ago, where certain things or memories that happened recently would start to become tough to remember sometimes, even things like people's names and certain locations of places.

Something my father used to do alot is to play those word puzzles or trivia games in the newspaper every day, and also watch alot of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and said activities like these always kept his mind busy and stimulated. And he had probably the sharpest memory out of anybody I've ever known, the man could recall details from childhood and after like they happened yesterday.

My memory isn't what it used to be that's for sure. I have all my UN/PW in a notebook as I frequently forget what the freak they are.
I will always now jot a note on my phone about certain things as I know when I need the info I won't remember it.
I do know I love my GPS in vehicle as it takes me 4-5 trips to the same place to remember how to get there.

I have to rely pretty heavily on sticky notes and pop up reminders for appointments and anything else.

                      Re: Memory

I used to have near photographic memory. Not the "I can read a page and recite it word for word" that people think. I can remember dates and events vividly from the past 20+ years, as far back as when I was 2-3 years old. I could read or write something up, and then remember it no problem for months or longer, if not on the first try, the second guaranteed it. People are annoying about it because you'll bring up something and they'll say "I don't remember that, you are probably making it up," as if someone would make up events just to say they remembered it.

Worked for everything. Hearing didn't work as well, probably because I have selective hearing. It sucked for proofreading my work because I would still remember how I intended to write it and would miss lots of stupid grammar errors.

However, I had a sleep disorder a few years ago and that killed it. It just isn't what it used to be. I'm hoping once I get a break from school and don't have stress or care about things for awhile, I can work on it a bit.

                        Re: Memory

I have very good long term memory it's my short term memory that's a bit dodgy. I think a lot of it has to do with me cramming my head full of useless information. I'm also a very reflective person so I like to come up with parallel between events these days with things that have happened in the past.

Now there are some short term things I have drummed into my head pretty well or else i'd be in big doo doo like my girlfriend's birthday LOL!

                          Re: Memory

I don't know how my memory is configured.

My childhood I remember for the most part, but not down to the minute detail however significant events/milestones I remember like they happened yesterday.

I also remember random irrelevant details from it as well that I should have no recollection of. Doesn't make any sense.

My short term is pretty solid though. Unless it involves work, then I got sticky notes lol

I remember people in movies/tv for some reason. I'll see a bit part and know who the person was and what other movies I'd seen them in. Wish I had that kind of sponge memory for everything!

My fiancee is always amazed that I know some no name actress was so and so in this other movie.

I'm also pretty decent at trivia in general, just doesn't happen as easily for learning school stuff.
