Any body else in the poor as dirt club?

You know that club were you diet consists of multiple forms of taters, pasta and if you were that extra over time, ground beef. You know, that club where if your not late on one bill it's another, that club were you pay one bill so they turn it back on only for them to turn off another. You know that club where your dog food, but at the sacrifice of your morning coffee. You guys know what I am talking about.

    Sincerely,

    A poor college student.

I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum for college students, but compared to people with real jobs, yea, I'm poor. I have savings but I won't touch it in case the job hunt goes on and on and on soon.

I was there before too... I was down to eating 1 package of Ramen Noodles every third day just to keep a roof over my head.

There was a stretch in college where I was so broke that I would go to any event just for the food. There was also a time where all I had to eat was peanut butter, bread and a big bag Reese's left over from Halloween. Reese's used to be my favorite candy but I can't eat much of it anymore.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Yeah, I went through the same thing in college. We didn't have dorms or anything, just apartments. So it was me and three roommates in an apartment. We had real bills from the jump. I had a work-study gig that only paid my rent portion and nothing else. There were times all I had to eat was syrup sandwiches.

After I got my first job, things started to brighten up and I haven't looked back since. This is only a short season in your life, man.

I've been lucky to never be this poor, but is your family this poor as well?

I ask because depending on their income and some hard looking into grants, you could find yourself with some money to pay for things like food just because you're in college.

I was never so poor I couldn't eat a good hearty meal while at college, but I was still able to turn my lower middle class status as a young man into a free ride in college.

If you need any guidance in this department send me a PM. I'm not sure how much you know or what you've attempted, but I'm sure there's an answer somewhere.

No one should ever have to struggle while in college. There are people out there that will give you money to make sure you do not.

For a long time I thought I'd be a lifetime member of this club. Finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. But I've got poor stories that are just too dang embarrassing for me to tell anonymous people I've never even met.

I can sympathize with yall though. It's a lifestyle that I'm trying to divorce.

Research your local resources, such as a community food bank/pantry.

Also as jmood said, keep your eyes/ears open for events on campus offering free food. Two girls at Pitt started @FreeOaklandFood to announce chances to get some free grub.

And yeah, I know what you mean. I'm very thankful I had a roommate who bought powerbars in bulk variety packs and didn't like one of the flavors.

Sorry for the bump but i just gad to chime in. No, but I would be if I took my dream trip (and that would not even be very expensive for a trip). That is in terms of my individual financial situation.

I'm with you, brother. I'm savoring these summer months while I am living at home. Having a home cooked meal on the table every night is so awesome, lol.

Much better than having spaghetti every other night

I have 17 cents to my name and nothing but half a pack of cheese, some ketchup, mayo, and two week old Mt. Dew in my fridge. I'm robbing Peter to pay Paul every month. The only thing that's going my way is it's summer and I don't have to heat my house.

I've been there before and it's not fun. When I was laid off I went back to college and met my now wife. She went back for the same reason and we ended up moving in together right after she finished school. She was working for Big Brother's Big Sisters full-time but the pay wasn't good and it was a 1 yr contract. She worked nights and weekends and JC Penny's in the jewelry department, which I went to school full-time and worked 20-25 hours at Best Buy. We barely had enough to live on and I actually had to borrow some money from my parents for rent. We didn't get to see each other much since our schedules were so different, especially on the weekends. Those were really lean times especially since both of us had graduated from college once and had good full-time jobs prior to getting laid off.
