Re: Vegas Tips Anyone?
I remember when we all turned 21 and had our first Vegas trip, I went to buy a chick and myself a shot of whiskey. I couldn't hear the bartender over the music so I just hand her a 20 and walk away, thinking that would be well more than enough to cover it. Wrong. Someone grabs me and I find out for two shots it was 28 dollars.
Welcome to the Real World, kid. This taught me more about life than years I spent in college.
As a guy who worked at a casino in SD for years, I don't understand why people play slot machines. I would much rather play poker over anything else, but I would settle for blackjack or craps if I had to, that's it. I have to feel like I have at least a little bit of control over what is going on."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: Vegas Tips Anyone?
Bump...
I'm considering a 5-6 day Vegas Trip around late Spring. I'm actually going for different reasons that most... Instead of gambling and drunken debauchery, I'm going with my wife. We're not big into partying and what not and neither of us have been before. Honestly, Vegas never has really been on my radar because we normally go to more tropical places. However, since it's actually really cheap to fly there and my wife has been bugging me about seeing some shows, then I figured why not?
Like I said we'll probably be going out to shows on most nights and I saw on TripAdvisor where there's some hiking/kayaking stuff to do during some of the days. Knowing the intent of my trip, do you guys think it would be beneficial to stay in a hotel like The Mandalay Bay or should I just stay at some place cheaper like 55 mentioned in the 2nd post? Also, hows the traffic? Would it be better to rent a car or just depend on walking and taxis. It seems like a lot of activities will send a van for you, so perhaps it would be better to skip renting.
Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated. My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

Re: Vegas Tips Anyone?
Every time I go to Vegas it's with the fiancee.
We normally do the show thing - there are plenty of hotels on the strip for cheap, especially if you get their free player cards (they just send emails all the time.)
Last time we went I think our room was ~40 a night at Luxor, and we didn't gamble much at all (really just sitting down and putting 5-10 in a slot machine while we waited for our show to start.)
I like staying on the strip, if only because all the shows we like to go see are there (for the most part) and the fact that the hotels often have deals on the shows for staying there.
It all depends on what type of deal you can find and what parts are important to the trip. We like walking the strip so we stay there. If we go more for the gambling/seeing friends from Wisconsin that flew out there we stay at Golden Nugget.
I just looked through my old emails and this is the email Mandalay sent me for prices (Mandalay is yellow/orange and THEhotel prices are the purple ones.)

I'd say stay on the Strip if you plan to go to shows each night or any of the amazing restaurants. Also, if you're going when it's warm and you enjoy pools, then a moderately priced Strip property is the way to go. You can walk (within reason) to anything depending on where you're located on the strip. Obviously, you'll want to walk to the properties near you, so if you're on the Mandalay Bay end you'll want to stick to that corner. The Venetian/Caesars etc are the middle. There isn't much to do on the north end (Circus etc) at the moment. You can cab anywhere on the Strip for about 12-15 bucks depending on the time. Downtown is a bit more expensive for a cab, but you can bus it downtown if you're looking to save some money.Comment
