That said, Ive seen alot of people go through some serious stuff on here. When all is said and done, there are still OS'ers that have gone through alot more than me, in any case here is a meaningful post, to me, and the crazy last 2 weeks of my life:
My wife was pregnant, 38 weeks, 6 days, on March 21st. I came home from work, we ate pasta, all was good, she started getting indigestion.
She was walking around the house, in extreme discomfort, I was worried, I asked if she wanted to go to the hospital. She said no, she just needed to get comfortable.
After about 30 minutes of walking around, complaining, I called my grandmother, who is an RN, her immediate reaction was to go to the hospital. My wife asked for 15-20 more minutes seeing if it would subside. The pain was like in her chest right below her breasts. I told her OK, but I called the doctors office and requested the on duty OBGYN to call me back.
About 30 mins later, she called me, spoke to my wife, told me to go to the store, get tums and ginger ale, take the bubbles out of the ginger ale by mixing it with a spoon, and she should be ok and get rid of the indigestion.
I do so, and to point out while waiting for the doc to call my wife, wife vomited...alot. I was uneasy. I gave her 2 tums, and the flat ginger ale, she threw up shortly after, and I had enough, I got the bags that we had ready for the hospital, got her in the car, and went to the ER.
About halfway there she said " What is happening to me, something is wrong". i floored it, i knew something wasnt right at that point.
We go to ER, they immediately sent us up to maternity, they took her BP 3 times, it was 210/150, she pee'd in a sup it was like motor oil, doc said Baby is coming tonight, in actually 15 mintues via C-section. It was at this point I called family and let them know something was going on. they started to come in.
They wheeled my wife out, and gave me some stuff to put on, hospital garb, and I was on standby because they didnt know if they were going to put her under or give her an epidural.
After 25 agonizing minutes, they gave me the green light, and I went in to the OR and stood by her head while they did the c-section, and 12 minutes later they pulled the baby out and it was this crazy moment, most intense moment of my life, and we put the baby next to my wife and we were both crying, and he had 5 fingers and toes, lol, and it was incredible.
I went with the baby to the nursery, they did all the tests, he was perfect. both our families were there, and they came to the nursery, everything was more or less much like any birth outside of the previous drama. We all went to the recovery with the baby and saw my wife, it was great.
Because my wife had "clampsia" they put her on magnesium, so she had to go to ICU for 24 hours because she couldnt be on magnesium in the maternity ward.
I put the baby in the nursery, spent about 20 mins with my wife, then out families went home. I escorted her to the ICY and by 5 am on friday the 22nd, she was tucked into the ICU and I told her i would go home, feed the dog and cat and bring her her phone.
I raced home, fed the animals, got her phone, took a quick look in on the kid, and went back to ICU I got there at like 6 am. I walked in, and she was sleeping but opened her eyes when I walked in, I told her I had her phone, kissed her on her forehead, and told her I group texted her work to tell them the good news, she thanked me, got a blank look on her face and went into a violent 1 minute seizure.
I flipped ran out asking for help, docs came in, and sedated her. It was probably one of the most terrifying things ive ever seen in my life, i thought she was dieing.
Over the next 2 days she had a total of 5 seizures.
Her Kidneys failed, liver failed, she was anemic, her hemoglobin dropped, so she had 8 blood transfusions and a platelet transfusion.
She went into "Hellp Syndrome".
On top of all that she had pnemonia in one of her lungs after being on a respirator for 5 days.
She got 3 bouts of Kidney Dialasis, and I spent my entire time running from the maternity room with the baby to the ICU with her.
My wife got Delerium because of the condition and because of the drugs they were giving her som most of my time with her was tring to get her to go to sleep because she was essentially delirious. It was insane. I hadnt slept in a few nights, I went through many night of doctors saying things like "we are on a slippery slope tonight"
I have never been so afraid in my life. I saw my wife, with Jaundice, swollen beyond recognition, on a respirator, and delirious, and with a baby that needed me a floor up, and I was helpless.
2 weeks after this all started, they took her off the respirator, and my mother in-laws boyfriend took me up the street to a steakhouse to "get out for a minute"
So I finally go out, eat dinner and then I get a call that "My wife is wake, eating ckiken broth, and asking for me"
We book it back to the ICU, she up, like "whats up?".
We bring the baby down, and have a bit of a reunion, it was great.
SHe spent 1 more day there, then came to maternity ward for 5 dasy recovering, and finally this past Saturday we all came home.
Oh my fraking god what a 2 weeks it has been, there were times I thought she wouldnt make it, time I thought she was home free and thigns went down hill, then all of a sudden she prevailed, and now we are in crying baby/getting pee'd all over....heaven lol.
