*sigh* The debate about mirandizing the guy and treating him as a regular criminal vs. a terrorist and trying him in military court, etc. is going to be messy and politicized to death, and ultimately worthless, because either way, the end result is likely going to be the same: the guy's days outside of a cell are finished, and he'll never be heard from again.

Sad that even that will be turned into yet another political firestorm.

Unless I'm misunderstanding this, I'm pretty sure the dude's going to die, not spend life in prison.

If he refuses to talk to them prior to being Mirandized it would just lead to the eventual reading of his rights, wouldn't it? Can he be detained for a set length of time without the reading of his rights under this public safety provision?

He is under arrest, but they are able to question him right away to end the threat to themselves or the public. All other laws apply and any statements that they want to use in court against him will have to come after he is advised of his rights.

Doesn't seem like this is necessarily true. From a wide scale perspective it is, but they'd still be able to use some of it.

Yeah at some point in the future after wasting tons of tax payer money, probably tax payer funded legal team (unless someone else pays for it), many appeals, housing and protection, etc.

Its only answers to questions like are there any other bombs, where are they at, etc. With the condition he is in from the pictures, he won't be doing any talking now. I'm sure he will have his rights read to him at the hospital.

Glad it's over but this operation was a absolute success for these gentlemen. 4 dead, hundreds injured, a city traumatized, millions lost in time off, and a grand stage via the US Media. I have a hollow feeling about this, this does not feel like something to be celebrated.
