Drawing used to be my main passion, but as I got older I kind of left it behind. I wanted to be a comic book artist but let the dream all but die. About 10 years ago I got a Wacom tablet but never really learned to use it. Last year I gave it another shot and came up with this:





Nothing major I know, just a quick sketch of my dog trying to get a feel for the tablet. Unfortunately I stopped again but I always have it in the back of my mind to focus on it again. I feel like it would help me a lot, but I just never do it.

That's actually really good for a rough sketch, man.

1. I never got any good at it

2. The majority of teachers and artist I have met were mean and nasty for no reason

3. I compare myself unfairly to anyone better than me, which makes me depressed... On top of already being depressed over stuff.

I honestly know how you feel. There was a poster here, went by the moniker "Bornindamecca". He is really good, in fact he's a pro. He works in the comics industry as an artist. Every time he'd post something new here or on Deviant art it would simultaneously motivate to draw while at the same time making me feel hopeless because I'd never be as good as him.

You can't let it make you feel that way though. Try not to compare what you do to someone else, everyone has their own style, just work at developing and refining yours. What is "good" is largely going to be dependent on who is viewing it anyway.

Yeah I gotta start working on that portrait I posted earlier. Due next Monday lol and I work Thursday through Sunday night.

From my limited experience, that's an amazing sketch on the wacom tablet. You're light years ahead of where I got before I took an extended break.

I sketch as well and it has always been hard to get the same natural feel using a tablet for me.

Wow I love drawing. I remember using autocad in school during free time to make some pics. Wish I still had them.

I'm best at looking at things and drawing them, however drawing from memory is not my strong point. Part of the reason I love black ops emblem editor so much.

I am drawing shapes now... Not much, but it keeps me drawing at least. I figured out I need to draw circles left to right (As I am left handed...)

I suck at circles on this wacom tablet

I just look at everything, I notice the shape of everything from people's feet, to faces to building signs, to furniture.. they are literally everywhere.

I just notice that ive always done this, its not that I look for it.
