Re: Looking for work is so frustrating

over an incident I have to leave the house around 6:35 and im back home about 530, so in short it sucks real bad. In alot of traffic and going a distance so im completely wiped out when I get home...im looking up some good vitamins right now which im not sure which ones to get.

Im not on salary and things have changed here so much its not worth it. I liked the direction things were going before GE bought us.. I was in telecommunications coming from accounting and was going to be integrated into IT, and right when that happened, they laid the entire IT department off.

Now I feel like I need more school, or I just need to get out of here period, because what I do, its hard to integrate this here into other jobs out there.

I like being off on the weekend, shoot people here get to work from home on flex days but my boss even though she does twice a week denied me, and her reasoning was as bogus as it can get, so its agian beginning to add up that things are going in the wrong direction.

I wouldn't give that up man, so long as you aren't in any financial binds and can save 10% each year, you are fine.
I wish I was able to save 10% but its just not feasible. I save more like 5% a year. Granted some of it is just due to me over spending also and not having enough control. I could most likely get up near the 10% mark if I was more disciplined with buying games and fishing gear.

It's tough, but that's what'll help. We got a house and are planning a wedding so had to really analyze our money and watch our spending a bit. We didn't have to skip out on stuff, more just plan it and make sure we could afford it.

I feel your pain, Phobia. I'm pretty much raising a family as is, having to take care of my parents. Being 24 and a foot in my career, I wanted to enjoy a bit and barely saved. I have a new car, new laptop, etc and on and on. But, I've learned this year to prepare for the future. I've cut back on little things, convenience store items (Monster drink, candy), going out to eat...and focusing more on things I already paid/paying for..like cable, internet, etc. My weekdays consist of work gym and relaxing and on the weekends I do other money-saving activities. I'm having a goal of 20% savings this year to make up for previous years.

Also, I love weekends off. I do get stuck in a rut a few times, but at the end of the day, I'd much rather know that there is always a light at the end in the form of 2 days off.

Yea our wedding is November 15 so we been planning for that also. Then we gotta plan for kids, day care is expensive, and all that whole nine yards. So yea that is part of the reason me taking money over the "cush" will be required.

Yeah, we're saving in the future for kids as well, so once the wedding and everything's done we're making a budget and trying to stick with it (while still enjoying life) so we can save as much as possible.

It's rough though, I feel ya!

10% can definitely be done thats for sure... planning is always the key. Don't just say im going to do it, do it when youre ready for the dedication, take it off the top and you'll never really miss it.

Matter of fact, its your savings so you can do what you want to with it anyway

I am graduating from college in a couple of weeks and have been looking for a new job for a few months. Not much luck so far. I am looking at jobs across the entire country (want to leave the south if I can), but it's still difficult. Very few places seem to be willing to hire new graduates that lack industry specific experience. Not surprising, I know, but frustrating nonetheless.

My GF is trying to be a librarian at a school(essentially same thing as a teacher) and she has not been having much luck, I kept trying to tell her it will be ok though because it will! She has a outstanding résumé but lacks the years of experience schools want.

It's still a rough job market, the recession taught companies how to get by with less so hiring is still not great. I heard a report on NPR that said American workers are as miserable as they have been in decades. I work 10-12 hours a day, were understaffed and we need help but management is reluctant to help.

It sucks but it just appears to be the norm now. Keep your head up and keep looking though, odds are you will find something eventually!

Yep that last statement is so true. They're doing alot of shady stuff, doubling up people's workload but not paying them, hiring people as contractors which can only last as a years worth of work, not having to pay them benefits, then letting them go for 6-12 months then rehiring them again to repeat the same process, cheaping on the resources and making people have to improvise to have to get their jobs done...

Eventually something will come up but as you said now they want the degree, the experience and all of your time without the right compensation... its ridiculous.

Sucks when your field isn't great. My soon to be wife works at CPS for the state as a social worker. All jobs for non master degree social workers pay horribly and are usually pretty crappy jobs long term. Our only real option is to have her get her masters it seems. We've all ready had a talk about how she picked the worst field ever lol. What's even more amusing is her parents are teachers and wouldn't let her do that cause it's pretty annoying in some states...but that's better than social work lol.

In a lot of occupations, employers went from preferring a bachelors to masters. A associates degree is pretty much worthless these days and a bachelors degree is not worth it if your going to stop at that.

My advice to kids these days, trade schools. Sure trade schools may not be glorious but if you have the chops for a 4 year university, you will stand above the crowd in a field like electrical work or elevator work. My dad has no school, is a Elevator mechanic and he makes a obscene amount of money

I'd reccommend they go into their own business if I could. Invest in some real estate and save some money up.. get a great start from the jump because whats going on out there is pitiful.
