Two songs come to mind for me:
Home's in Alabama, no matter where I lay my head
My home's in Alabama, Southern born and Southern bred

And Metallica;s "Wherever I May Roam"
      "Anywhere I roam
Where I lay my head is home"

So, on the one hand while I only want to live in 'Bama,
even if I wound up in Alaska or NYC, some part of me would always
      still be in Alabama.

Off topic I'd NEVER live in California. (earthqukes, flood, fires, mudslides, the Lakers/Niners) lmao

I've been all over the US and can safely say I do love it here in Iowa. When I was in high school I was all for getting out of here, but I have grown to really love where I live. I am very passionate about the Iowa Hawkeyes and am very happy to be able to literally drive about 1 hour to see them live.

To further this thought process, my brother has lived in Tacoma, WA and DC, but he misses Iowa. Aside from the time (habit for TV), and midwest sports interests like me (Cubs, Hawkeyes Vikings), he's said the people just aren't the same. Not to knock other states but you sometimes feel comfortable with people who have your same roots.

The only other state I would choose to live in other than Iowa is Minnesota. Beautiful part of the US, home to my Vikings, and I've been there many times due to family living all over the state.

Without looking at specific numbers, I'd imagine Dallas to be relatively safest. It's a big area with lots of nice suburbs. Maybe Minneapolis.

St Paul is safer than Minneapolis iirc, but the Twin Cities are definitely some of (if not THE) safest big cities.

We're still looking at places to move to. Most recently has been Vegas, KC and Twin Cities. Other places are still in play of course.

Most of our debt will be paid off within 2 years, and we're shooting for having the 100k school loan paid off in 4. 5 max.

I wouldn't call Dallas safe. Unless you live in Highland Park or something like that. Oak Cliff is probably the worst crime area in the metroplex.

Just gonna drop that here. I don't know exactly how everything was ranked, but that's just one of the things. I'll see if I can find anything more in-depth.

Charlotte? Hm, I dunno about that. Seeing NY in there is kinda weird to me too.

                  Eh, maybe.

Eden. I'm there on the VA border. The natives always called it E-town. And I am aware of Elizabethtown. Eden isn't bad though... small city with a sort of Andy Griffith-vibe. If I want somewhere a bit larger, Danville is 15 minutes and Greensboro is 25 minutes out. Those aren't metropolises by any means, but have the essential big city features, except sports teams. Charlotte isn't too long of a trip for that though.

Well, that's my pitch for *southern country accent* "Lil' ol' Eden, North Carolina ya'll! Small town with big cities round yonder!"

Either California or Seattle.. I have a lot of family in Seattle and I go to California all the time. I live in Las Vegas right now and it is miserable.

Chicago not on the list for top 10 crime cities ? NYC for lowest crime ? Now I know that list is fubar.

Chicago is 6th highest, BUT, if you read the fine print at the bottom, you would see that they aren't included because they don't do their rape statistics properly.

So, Chicago is probably higher than 6th even.

Chicago is #1, has to be. Especially recently.
