This is a lesson I've learned time and time again.

I think It's finally sunk it.

I think the main thing I've learned is you need to take time for yourself sometimes. Life is serious and its hard, sometimes we all just need a day or two to just chill out, to drink an age appropriate beverage and eat pizza, or to play video games all day.

Re: Things You Wish You'd Known Earlier in Life

                1) Get a job as early as possible. I just got my first job about 6 months ago, I'm 18, and I wish I would have gotten a job when I was 16 or so. Money is great. That being said...

                2) You can't put a price on your free time. This summer has been terrible for me so far because when I'm not playing baseball, I'm working, and when I'm not working, I'm playing baseball. I haven't hung out with my best friends since graduation last month.

                3) Don't think that you have to do something. In example, I felt that I had to play football. I didn't want to. I hated it. I hated the upperclassmen on the team, and I didn't realize that I didn't have to play until after my sophomore year. If you want to, go ahead. If you don't, then don't.

                4) Have friends that stay out of trouble. They don't have to be saints, but make sure they're not committing crimes. Nothing worse than having to drive around your idiot "friend" because he got his license taken from him because he got MIP'd.

                5) Be confident in who you are. I really, really hated who I was up until this past year. All I'm going into for that.

                6) Be a sweetheart to the girls. Only the easy girls go for the d-bags, you don't want them.

                7) Cut down on the saliva before your first kiss. Yuck.

                8) Appreciate your siblings. Ever since my brother moved out, we've hardly been able to hang out like the old days. Yesterday was probably the most time we've spent together recently, and that was just a trip to the mall for paintball stuff and Taco Bell.

The biggest thing I would tell a 13 year old Dominick is to enjoy each and every moment of life, and take advantage of opportunities that are there for you. Find something you love doing and stick with it, don't do things just because you feel like it's what is expected of you.

Re: Things You Wish You'd Known Earlier in Life

I echo the sentiments of people saying "Don't be afraid of who you really are." There are so many kids High School age, and I Was guilty of this too that are too worried, or afraid of having original opinions, or expressing themselves uniquely because they are too afraid of being ridiculed, or not fitting in.

If someone makes fun of you for who you are, then they are someone that you wouldn't want to be friends with in the first place. Don't re-arrange your lifestyle just to appease someone, or fit into a crowd. You'll find a group of people that will relate to you and appreciate you, for who you are. Not only that but they won't expect anything in return, and will be glad to be your friends because they are there for you, to laugh and have fun during the good times but also willing help each other get up in the bad times. Those are the kind of people that will be your true friends.

Also along these lines don't be so bottled up, and reserved to the point that you are afraid to put yourself out there.. (Social events, activities) This is advice for the shy kids like I was that maybe don't make friends easily, or get anxious in Social atmospheres. You will never improve your Conversational abilities, and develop a solid friend base if you don't put yourself out there and try some new things. Basically don't be afraid to Join an Organized After School Club, Sports team, Swimming, Book Club, volunteer event... you can meet so many people, and learn so much. Worst that can happen, is you can say this is not for me and move on to trying something else.

That's what I would tell a 13 year old version of me who wasn't quite ready to enter a High School atmosphere, 11 years ago.

I'm 17, so this isn't exactly coming from a grown ups perspective, but the one thing I would tell myself is to not be afraid to take risks. Failing is scary, whether it be getting rejected by a girl or cut from a new sport or club, but failing doesn't suck nearly as bad as looking back and realizing you didn't try.

                            BOOM!

As someone who is most assuredly a "grown up", I can tell you that this EXACT strategy has held me in good stead in all things personal and professional since...well...since I was your age, which was a LOOOOOOOOOONG time ago...

Sounds simple, but it takes a lot of guts...

Future looks bright if it's in the hands of folks who also think this way...

I wish I would have known that back then. I would get discouraged so easily when i was younger, held me back from a lot of things.
