Was I in the wrong here?

I will try to make this as short as possible but this may still be a fairly long read, so consider this a warning.

No, I'm sure there's a good reason he sucks at his job.

I'm not as knowledgable as others on this type of matter being in college, but I don't think you were in the wrong. You gave the guy plenty of time to do things and ultimately had to what you had to do to try to get your stuff back.

You handled it a bit nicer than I would have.

Re: Was I in the wrong here?

I hate to admit this, but it does make me feel a little better, even if I already thought I had done no wrong, to hear different view points from you guys.

I hate being an *******. I take no pride in not conducting business and concentrating more on this trivial dilemma.

I think what I need to remember is the only times he did ever call me back is when I had an authority figure reach him or "threatened" to do so.

Right there alone should show he was receiving phone calls (from the Sheriff for sure) and he was by his phone receiving these messages.

Damn shame it had to be this way, but more than anything, even if it never affects me, I hate upsetting someone if it can potentially give my name/business a bad rep.

But I think there are just times you need to say "screw that" and take care of business like a man. Unfortunately, this was one of those times.

I wouldn't have given that guy as muich slack as you did. The way he runs his business, I doubt he will be in business much longer.

Honestly you waited far longer than I would have. 3 or 4 days after the week I'd been all over him.

I was actually getting irritated reading all your "It's ok and another week goes by" lol

So yeah I think you were more than fair.

              I hear ya.

And I do want to take this moment of seriousness to say that you guys on here know me. I'm as obnoxious, loud mouthed, and juvenile on these boards as they come.

But, when it's time to log off and go to work, I take business more serious than life itself.

That's just how I operate. I have fun when it's time to have fun, and I do work when it's time to do work.

So this hasn't been fun or easy for me, since I don't get my rocks off fighting with people, even if they are in the wrong.

But I still stand up for myself when I must.

Too lenient/patient. After a week, and no response, I would have called him, like you, waited a day (like you), and then been at his business going ape**** until he complied.

A lot of contractors/repair guys are some shady ****s (this is from my nyc experience). You give them an inch and they will take a mile. You need to keep them in line (signed contracts) and if they wont be kept in line, you find some other less shady contractor/repair guy.

                    The more relevant question;
Who gave you Sam's contact info? Who vouched for him? I would demand that that person let you smash them in the face with a tack hammer at least one time. Fairs fair.

No way. Like everyone else said, you gave him way more slack than I would have. He definitely sounds shady. His employee skipped town with your blueprints? I'd do some digging online and see if others have had issues with him or his company as wel as go ahead and file a complaint with the BBB or what ever.

It was an employee of his my dad actually met on a charity poker run. They got to talking and he said to give his boss a call.

My dad relayed the information to me, I called him twice and met with him, not even a hint of a problem.

I never even got to meet the other guy, but I don't think he was the one who left the state.

I doubt it was even his employee. I am willing to bet he was subcontracting some part of this out and he used one of the many out of state crews here and they just up and left with my plan.

And unless absolutely necessary, I would like to avoid getting these places involved if I can. We both live in a small area and even if I have every right to call the BBB, I really don't want to.

I hate the drama, and I don't like to make trouble if I don't have to.

Hopefully he follows through this time and rights the ship so I don't have to pursue these other options and just move on with housing experience.

I have to echo the sentiments of others here Baumy, I would've gone after this guy a lot sooner than you did. In fact, once this is all over you should report the issue with the BBB as you really don't want other people having to deal with this kind of crapola.
