Sadly a typical story, scumbag does you wrong, you give him every opportunity and HE gets mad when called on his abysmal behavior.

So many self-centered, illogical people on this planet who thinks the world revolves around them and that all their lies and excuses should be believed and everyone is an idiot except them.

You can try to avoid these people at all costs, but sadly it's impossible.

You did nothing wrong, you should have gotten more aggressive earlier, after the second week you should have been at his business and/or home politely asking for your blueprints back and if he didn't comply inform the authorities. He showed his colors early, you were far too kind.

I've never had a house designed from scratch so forgive my ignorance but why do you only have 1 copy?

Absolutely agree. There was never even the slightest hint of a problem until after he left with the plans.

I actually have 4 total copies, but the one he had was the original.

My bank wanted a copy of the original as well.
