Lucky for me, my dad is a salesman, and has salesmen friends.
My current car payment is $160/month.Boston Red Sox

Re: Your worst experience with car salesmen
Was this dealership one with a mobile home for an office? Lol...
I tend to go to the big national ones myself, and my wife does the talking. Why? Because I'm mush when it comes to dealing with salesmen. I know they're like strippers, whereby they're pretending to be your friends, but I fall for it every time....
Oh, and as long as you don't run into this guy, you should be good:

Re: Your worst experience with car salesmen
Ahh, I see. I'm sure it came out to a decent deal, without knowing specifics.
------------------------------
When I was car shopping, I received so many different offers on the same vehicle that it was insane. Just the difference in amount is mind boggling. I would definitely advise researching big time, and seeing what people are paying in your area, etc.
In the end though, if you're comfortable with what you negotiated, that's all that matters.Comment

Re: Your worst experience with car salesmen
My wife and I went to look at a Hyundai Santa Fe, and I had done enough research to know exactly what I wanted to pay. They tried all the tricks of talking to their manager, telling me they were going to lose money, etc. I kept them nervous by standing next to the door telling them I would leave, finally got the deal within $500 of what I wanted. We were paying cash since we had enough saved up, and had no interest in financing with them. They still brought in the finance guy to finish up the paperwork, and when we told him we were paying cash, he kept pressuring us to use their financing. When we were adamant we weren't doing that, he told us that we were being dumb, and that we should go to business school. I have a business degree, and if it wasn't for my wife really wanting that car, I would have walked away right then.Comment

However, in the end, you do what you are most comfortable with. A lot of people hate having payments, which is fine..some know how to manage it and make it work for them. Neither way is dumb, it is what works best for you.Comment

He was an *** about it, but depending on what kind of rate you qualified for...there are options.

Re: Your worst experience with car salesmen
I've been lucky and only had one bad experience with a car salesman at a dealership. It was about 11 years ago and this sales guy was really pushing this car on me (I forget the make and model). I needed a car but it wasn't worth what he was asking for it. The car had some scratches on it, didn't even have a CD player, and needed the serpentine belt replaced. He wouldn't know anything off or fix the belt and kept bugging me about that car. I walked off the lot and for 3 days in a row he called at 3pm and 7pm asking me if I wanted the car. Finally I got a little pissy with him and said the car was a bad deal, that I wasn't interested, and to never call me again. I ended up getting something elsewhere that was a much better deal and painless.
Since then I've actually bought two different cars at that same dealership where the idiot worked at but I've never seen him since that day. I doubt he lasted long in car sales.GT: Herkyalert

A different guy from the dealership Just called and offered me a 5000 dollar car. I didn't tell him about the sales guy last night. I did tell him the finance guy said I could only have one of 5 cars and he was like "oh let me call you back lol. " Fools. Maybe I'll try to get a legacy again.
