    Anybody Know Anything About Mowers?

    Good Morning,

Well today I was mowing the jungle that I called my backyard and I ran into an issues. I was mowing some overly large grass and then my mower made a pop and it turned off. I was able to get the mower to start again but it seemed to run at a lower RPM and it rattled even when idle on the concrete and it got louder when I actually tried to mow the grass. So my question is, does anyone know what I did to my mower and is there any way to fix it at all?

EDIT: So I went out and tried to start it again and I throw my whole body weight into it and can't get it to start anymore, and yes I just filled it with gas

Mine did this before. It was because a part broke off the blade portion which caused the blade to either come off or not work at all. This was due to mowing over some rocks and thick grass. I took it to get service and they replaced the part. Good as new. Was very cheap to fix...

Flip the thing over to see if it is the same problem. I believe the part was the part keeping the blade on. It was chipped and in very bad shape.

Well I am out of town for a couple of weeks so I can't do this right now but my backyard is going to be a jungle when I get back. I flipped it over and the the blade seemed like it was staying on well. I don't know what it was but it rumbled real bad after my error.

Re: Anybody Know Anything About Mowers?

Judging by your post I'm assuming this is a push mower.

First, there is several things that can create a wobble or shake. A lawnmower blade has a swoop at the rear of the cutting surface. If this section of the blade has any difference in a angle compared to the opposite end of the blade you are going to get a wobble. It might be hard to notice but just a slight difference causes major issues, think of it like tires on a car. If one is wore different then the whole car shakes.

Second, The pop and the resulting vibration could of happened when you hit the deep grass. This can cause your blade to bend downward toward the ground. Which then could of forced the blade to make contact with the deck surface. If this did occur the pop was nothing, but the damage done to the blade would cause the wobble.

Last thing I would check is the bolts holding on the blade. If one on either side came slightly unscrewed and you got some play in the blade then you will also get the shake. You can see the screws I'm talking about in the above picture also.

I highly doubt it was a internal issue. I mean don't quote me on that anything is possible but I would expect the hard starting could be number of things, hell you could have a bunch of grass fibers wrapped tight tight around the shaft and its causing the blade to not spin freely thus resulting in harder starting and to much for the engine to handle. This is another thing that could happen with long grass and those long stalk like grasses.
